The book is laid out well. It presents material in a logical method. If you are anti evolution you might not be impressed. It covers the basics of the organization of life, different thoughts on it, the life cycle, the basics of relevant chemistry, then moves into more complex topics. It is a basic biology text though. Still, do yourself a favor and make sure you have at least a semester of beginning chemistry. You will be glad you did. The sciences overlap so much that you really should be prepared to understand them well.
We used this in conjunction with an online area, which was really nice.
I am now using it to homeschool my sophomore. While it is a college text, if your student has had algebra and chemistry, this is written well enough that it is very usable for homeschool for upper classes.
I think Amazon could probably find it in themselves to offer these textbooks at a lower price.
Not sure how to really review a book... it's a biology book. It's about biology and it's good. I like it. If you like biology and need it for classes, then get it. It also smells good.
The end.
