But I have reason to hold onto hope. Outside of the comforting presence of The Holy Spirit, C. Michael Patton, is a very honest and tender person when counseling others who have been down the road of spiritual darkness. I first met him when he came and spoke at a college I'm currently attending. (Grace University) The conference was three days long, I remember asking lots of questions and taking plenty of notes.
In short, Increase My Faith is a book that can be a friend to the spiritually lonely, depressed and doubtful. By the grace of God, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I can promise you that.

Author of, The Emotional Struggle.
One of the premises behind Patton's book is that we each may demonstrate a measure of faith. It is not that we either have faith or not, though this is possible, but that we may have varying degrees in which we express or exhibit faith. The degree by which we express faith corresponds to the degree in which we rely on the content, have conviction, and consent to the content and conviction of our faith.
Since this is a difficult concept to grasp, Patton uses an excellent visual aid for the reader. He uses an aid called the belief-o-meter, which really looks like a speedometer or odometer. Within the first meter of belief there are the three components of faith: content, conviction, and consent.
Throughout Patton's book he uses varying examples of these meters to illustrate how varying degrees of faith work. This is actually quite helpful to the reader, because the concept can be very difficult to comprehend otherwise.
Throughout Increase My Faith Patton weaves personal life stories to explain how the concepts of content, conviction, and consent work. Especially touching and sobering is his story about forensic evidence for Christ. The personal life story he shares is a story concerning the tragic death of his sister. This jarring story relays well how Patton has reflected much on the matter of faith, for he has experienced much that would cause him to reflect on this matter.
If you are someone who has spent time reflecting on the mechanics of how faith works, then I would encourage you to read this book. Also, if you are one who struggles with doubt, then you might find this book helpful. This book does an excellent job of describing in detail how the nuts and bolts of faith work and why it is important for us to apprehend true faith. I found this book refreshing because it helped me understand how to isolate the component of faith I might be struggling with at a given time when my faith seems weak. As a result I can better work through the struggle in my faith.
Thank you Michael for a very thoughtful and well-organized work on the topic of faith. Thank you also for giving free copies of this book at the last Oklahoma Gospel Coalition Meeting. It was well worth the read.

and breaks down the individual components and how they relate to one another. I was fascinated by the
way he explained in detail why Faith requires content, conviction and consent, hardly a "blind faith".
This book reads very well and is one you can go back to over and over again. The different parts of faith are illustrated with the use of gauges to measure your faith. Definitely a book to keep handy!
