    This was my first book by Ashley, and I found myself ordering the rest of the series and pre-ordering the next two. I REALLY liked this as an intro to the series. The characters were great. I found myself trying to figure out who everyone would end up with or how their story would go. I of course loved the world. We were in rodeos and traveling with the rodeo folk and horses and mountains and pretty views and sexy AF cowboys. I really thought that Ashley did a great job with the mental health struggles that Shooter has been dealing with and letting us see that what people see on the outside might not always be what is happening underneath. I liked their meet cute and that it wasn't in fact a meet cute. I liked how they circled around each other for a while before things came about. I also enjoyed how much Sterling did not put up with Shooter's sh*t. He wasn't here for games. He wanted things to be genuine. I also loved how much he helped Shooter. It is so amazing when you find that person and things just click where you don't feel alone anymore.

    Shooter is the NRA world champ AGAIN. He is on cloud nine and ready to party. He ends up at a bar in Vegas with his friends when someone catches his eye. He finds himself having a time in the bathroom with said stranger. Normally he doesn't think twice about on the road hookups, but for whatever reason he finds himself thinking about this guy long after their one night together. So isn't he shocked when he finds out that the stranger is Sterling Addams. His new competition. The same competition that his dad can't stop talking about and comparing him to. So Shooter does what he always does he trains. He ignores it, but he can't ignore this draw to Sterling. Even though he knows he shouldn't, he makes moves. But then Sterling starts doing the unthinkable- he starts winning. And Shooter finds himself on a downward spiral and the one person he wants to turn to is in fact Sterling. He pushes him away for as long as he can until he almost gets hurt and he realizes he might not want to do this anymore. He is finally honest with Sterling about all he has been struggling with and instead of the judgment he is expecting, he gets nothing but support. So Shooter decides to start making new moves and new plans. Plans that might be different from what he thought his dreams were but as long as Sterling is by his side, he can do anything.

    Sterling is questioning a lot of recent decisions he has made most importantly the one night stand with Shooter Graham. THE Shooter Graham. The man he has been idolizing for forever. The man he will be competing against next season. The man he now calls a neighbor in this small town they live in. The man he can't ignore anymore. He tried to. He really does. He puts up walls but they get torn down. There is something about Shooter that makes Sterling want to learn more about. He wants to know what makes him tick. He wants to know how to make him smile. He wants to know if he enjoys what he is doing and why he acts the way he acts. When he finally finds out, he is heartbroken. He wants what is best for Shooter, but does Shooter want what is best for himself? All Sterling can do is be by his side and help him through it, if he will let him.

    There were definitely times where I was annoyed by Shooter's behavior and his temper tantrums, but I can also recognize someone when they are deflecting the pain they are feeling. I also listened to half of this book on audio and have to say that the narrators did a FANTASTIC job. The tension and inflection was done perfectly. I can't wait to read more about these cowboys and meet new characters, and I sincerely hope our main men (you know who I mean if you have read this) get the second chance romance they deserve- pretty please Ashley!!!

I am head over heels in love with Shooter and Sterling. This book has all the spice to match the swoon worthy sweetness! The banter and chemistry between these two had me kicking my feet! And the amount of love they have for one another 🥹 It was perfect! The mental health representation in this book also made my heart so happy to see.
    I listened to the audiobook while reading along and I cannot express just how much Alex Kydd & Aaron Shedlock made this entire reading experience one I will truly never forget. Their performances made me feel all the butterflies. I could feel all their emotions coming off the pages! I highly recommend you listen to this audiobook, it is phenomenal!! If you like MM romance, rivals to lovers, forced proximity, a virgin MC, and so much more, then you need to give this one a try!

    I enjoyed this one for the most part, but around 60% the errors started appearing and it kept taking me out of the story. “It was barley 8 in the morning.” What? 🤣

    I did, however, really like that mental health was a big focus in this book and that Shooter was seeing someone to help him go through everything. I also honestly REALLY liked Sterling. I enjoyed his character and his family a lot. I enjoyed seeing him interact with Shooters friends and family.

    What I didn’t like:
    Honestly I got tired of seeing these boys cry every time they had a conversation. Now, I am absolutely not saying that men cannot cry but it felt like everything they had a conversation, eyes were shining with tears or tears were falling down someone’s face and it got really annoying.

    The family.
    The dad. I honestly felt like him apologizing was out of character and I wish that hadn’t gotten kind of resolved.
    The mom also irritated the hell out of me. She just sits there and allows her husband to talk to her child like that and then guilt trips him to come over for dinner more? Yeah, that’s a hard no for me.
    His sister also grated on my nerves and I really hated how she seemed to demand to know what was going on in his life when it didn’t seem like they were that close?

    I am interested to see what goes on next though.

    These two together are great. They bring out the best of each other. Like that Sterling grows more confident throughout the whole book. Also, like how he’s there for Shooter when he breaks down. Also, how he is always there for when somebody needs to talk. Shooter is a hotshot. From the way he acts into the way he wins. But that is not all he is because he wears his mask. I like the fact that he finally found someone to show his real self too. I also like that he needs help and he’s willing to get it after everything went down with his father. The overall story is amazing because you can see how much chemistry they have with each other. What I also like about this book is you get to meet characters that are going to be in future books.

    When Shooter wins the title of World Champion in Rodeo for the third time, he celebrates in the best way. Little did he know in the moment that his hook up that night would be his newest rival.

    “Well, what are you waiting for, baby?”

    Sterling is already nervous about joining the rodeo so imagine how much it intensifies when he decides to go to Cooper Lake and train/compete against the man and he admires and celebrated with his the last time he won.

    “ Sure, I’ll show him around. Show him right where I’m going to kick his a**.”

    This two have quiet the reunion and the banter between them is the one I have to see. Shooter can see his natural talent but he can’t help but feel the pressures of the competition.

    They try to avoid each other but when Sterling is invited to travel with Shooter and his bestie, the close quarters make it a little difficult to avoid the chemistry sizzling between these two.

    “So, let me hear it, baby. Let me hear you be bad for me, like I know you can.”

    These two stole my heart with this read. I connected to them so much and I got emotional when they were hurting. I love that we get a deeper look into Sterlings struggles as an older rodeo rider who needs to play with the idea of ‘what is after this’.

    “Keep an eye on my boyfriend, and keep those buckle bunnies away from him.”

    The balance between the banter, heartbreaking moments and the spice was delivered perfectly. I appreciated the tender moments and the times that my kindle steamed up because of Shooters month.

    Book 2 releases this month and I’m so excited to read back.

    Sidenote - I read 10 chapters, then purchased the audio and fully experienced this book. It had me feral.

Una notte passata insieme e non riescono a pensare ad altro, ma Shooter non vuole arrendersi a quel ragazzo che lo attrae come un magnete.

    Well, avevo letto già altro di questa autrice ed è stata la prima con cui ho approcciato gli MM romance e continua a non deludermi.
    Mi piace tantissimo la sua scrittura e riesce a rendere i sentimenti in maniera molto chiara ed emozionante. Si sente lo struggle di determinati pensieri e azioni.

    Dopo un inizio un po’ lento e travagliato dove la storia sembrava non decollare, la seconda metà è stata un susseguirsi di emozioni e risate. La chimica tra i due personaggi è immediata e resa benissimo nella scrittura, Sterling e Shooter non vi lasceranno andare tanto facilmente.
    C’è anche una grandissima scoperta di sé e dei propri problemi e la rappresentazione (anche se in minori quantità) della salute mentale ha reso il tutto più gradevole.

    E’ davvero una lettura spensierata e divertente se cercate qualcosa di leggero e spicy (nonostante non ci sia solo quello ovviamente), ma poi i cowboy, sono ufficialmente innamorata.

    I loved that story, yessss for some cowboy romance and that tension between the two was just right 🔥
    Sterling was sweet, shy and sooo understanding, open to listening and looking out for Shooter even when he was shooting him out. That dynamic was really hot and cold in the beginning but I loved how it was Shooter who chased Sterling, like he knows that he’s interested but he doesn’t act on it - stating that he wants to keep things professional.

    I loved that story and their personalities, Shooter is far more complex than he shows to the world and Sterling supports him all the way like the sweet man he is 😍
