Karen Poppy’s poems sing with images, sounds and stories that circumscribe deep pain and betrayal, raw tenderness, love and healing.
Many poems took my breath away, but the poem “in that place “ about a fox, keeps me enthralled, rereading and rereading.
The book is masterfully organized, the sections drawing an arc from origins and trauma, to an invitation for all of us to “mark each other with freedom, ” to the deep dive and finally, in part 5, to healing.
Karen Poppy’s collection does all this with verve, poise, raw truth telling and lines in every poem that moved me deeply with their wisdom, freshness and ultimately a tribute to the beauty of this life and world, the beauty of true courage, of “trusting nature’s agenda.”
