Street Smarts: Using Questions to Answer Christianity's Toughest Challenges Paperback – September 12, 2023
Purchase options and add-ons
How to engage in productive conversations with those who challenge your Christian convictions.
Gregory Koukl's best-selling book of practical apologetics, Tactics, wrote the game plan for discussing your Christian convictions with skeptics. In this follow-up, Koukl—a leader of clear-thinking Christianity—reveals the fundamental flaws in common, current challenges to Christian beliefs and values and provides step-by-step strategies to question and reveal those shortcomings.
Street Smarts offers model questions and sample dialogues to help guide believers in persuasive conversations about hot-button issues like:
- Relativism
- The trustworthiness of Scripture
- The claims of the Gospel
- Abortion
- Marriage, sex, and gender
This book will teach you how to tackle those discussions that believers often avoid because they feel out of their element, vulnerable, or exposed. Lucid, well-organized, and easy-to-follow, Street Smarts provides a specific set of questions—the same questions Koukl uses in his own encounters—that are embedded in sample mini-dialogues that you can use to have fruitful debates with non-believers.

'On full display in Street Smarts are Greg's many gifts, including his uncanny ability to engage his critics with both charity and rigor. Beckwith, Professor of Philosophy, Baylor University

About the author

Gregory Koukl is the founder and president of Stand to Reason (www.str.org). Greg started out thinking he was too smart to become a Christian and ended up giving his life for the defense of Christianity. A central theme of Greg's speaking and writing is that the Christian view of reality can compete in the marketplace of ideas when it's properly understood and properly articulated.
Koukl's teaching has been featured on Focus on the Family radio, he's been interviewed for the BBC, and did a one-hour national television debate with Deepak Chopra on Lee Strobel's "Faith Under Fire." Greg has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and the L.A. Times. An award-winning writer, Greg is author of "The Story of Reality: How the World Began, How It Ends, and Everything Important that Happens in Between," "Tactics: A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions," "Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air" (with Francis J. Beckwith), and "Precious Unborn Human Persons." Koukl has spoken on 85 university and college campuses both in the U.S. and abroad.
Koukl received his Masters in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at Talbot School of Theology, graduating with high honors, and his Masters with honors in Christian Apologetics from Simon Greenleaf University. He is an adjunct professor in the graduate program of Christian apologetics at Biola University.
Koukl hosts Stand to Reason's talk show advocating clear-thinking Christianity and defending the Christian worldview. Find more of Greg Koukl's resources at www.str.org.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024Street Smarts by Greg Koukl is a practical and applicable guide for Christians navigating tough conversations about their faith. A follow-up to his bestseller Tactics, this book highlights the flaws in common objections to Christianity and offers strategies to address them through model questions and sample dialogues. Koukl emphasizes the difference between “gardening” (sowing seeds of thought) and “harvesting” (reaping conversions) in evangelism, focusing on how to have meaningful, non-confrontational discussions with non-believers. Each chapter tackles specific challenges Christians face, showing how to expose the weaknesses in opposing arguments while maintaining a genial tone. With clear instructions and user-friendly tools, Street Smarts equips readers to confidently defend their beliefs and engage in thoughtful, persuasive conversations.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023Koukl has a great writing style, making this book accessible to anyone. He uses clear logic and does a good job anticipating objections to the points he is making. He has a passion about training others to have courage in their Christian worldview, as it is the best explanation for the way reality is. I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to have conversations with others about controversial topics but do not have the courage to engage. Great sequel to Tactics. Blessings to Mr. Koukl and the staff at STR!
