A standalone age-gap, dad's best friend's hockey romance.

Hollis Hendrix. Cat Dad. Hockey Player. Tattooed grump.

Love? Longing? I’m familiar with them. All because of my dad’s best friend.
I know better than to lust after Hollis.

First, he’s a decade older than me.
Second, my dad would absolutely lose it—I’m forbidden from dating his teammates.
Third, I just did something I can’t undo and Hollis knows.

So if you’re looking for me, I’m the woman at the pancake house trying not to make it weird.
But when Hollis calls me Princess with gruff longing, I wonder if maybe I’m not so alone in my feelings.

I put everyone else first. Except this time, I’m going to go after exactly what I want.
Him.

An excellent second book to the series!

An excellent second book to the series!
4.5/5 My Spice Rating: 🌶🌶🌶🌶.5/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 If You Want Me by Helena Hunting is book 2 of the Toronto Terror series but can easily be read as a standalone with no confusion. This installment is all about Peggy Aurora (AKA Hammer) and her dad's best friend Hollis. This is an age-gap romance that is filled to the brim with spice so hot it made me blush. There is plenty of tension and chemistry between our MCs and also includes lots of adorable and hilarious banter. I loved Hollis's orange tabby cats Postie and Malone and the way they ended up being a prominent part of the story. Crazy cat lady here, so it melted my heart. I was lucky to get a chance to listen to the audiobook and Stella Bloom & Zachary Webber nailed it as the voices of Hammer and Hollis. Webber's voice is amazing, so I love it when he is the male narrator in a book, and I thought Bloom made a fantastic Hammer. Both were easy to listen to and their voices fit together like a glove. The ending gave me all of the feels, and I was happy I grabbed a copy of the book as well because you get an extended epilogue which was AMAZING, and a QR code to a steamy scene. Though you don't have to, I would still recommend reading If You Hate Me because that book was 🔥 and just as amazing. I received an advance listening copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Aurora has had feelings for Hollis for years however not only is he 12 years older, her father’s best friend and teammate but he has never seen her as more than his best friend’s daughter. While he is on road trips, she cat-sits for him which leads to a revelation that shows him that she is no longer a girl but a woman however it will be up to her to take it to the next step.

When he was injured a year ago Aurora was there for Hollis as he recovered, and a friendship developed. He been denying his feelings for Aurora due to his friendship with her father, but he realizes it is a battle he will not win and now he can’t imagine a future without her, but will it cost him his friendship?

This story had it all from the humorous situations, the witty banter, the angst, the hot chemistry and a love that is undeniable. Not only are Aurora and Hollis great characters but there is a great cast of secondary characters which only makes this series better. The narrators only made the story better as it will bring a smile to your face as well as pull at your heartstrings while making these characters even more relatable.

If You Want Me is the second novel in the Toronto Terror hockey romance series from Helena Hunting, and it's an age gap, falling for your father's best friend (or alternatively, falling for your best friend's daughter) romance. Peggy Aurora Hammerstein has had a crush on her father's best friend since she was a teenager, but she never thought it would amount to anything. What she didn't know was that Hollis Hendrix has been looking at her differently ever since she started working at the Terror's front office. He's trying his best to not give in to the temptation that is his best friend's twenty-year-old daughter. Doing so would definitely cause problems, not just for his friendship with Aurora's father, Roman, but within the team as well. Then there's that age gap, even if he is only thirty-three compared to Roman being close to forty, so it's not as if he's old enough to be her father. Yet no matter how much he wants her, Aurora could never be his... Or could she?

I love me a well-written age gap romance; add to that the complication of Hollis being best friends and teammates with Roman, who is Aurora's father. (Yeah, I prefer to call her Aurora than Hammer. Sorry, not sorry.) This wasn't a case of an older man who decided to corrupt a younger woman. If anything, Aurora had close to zero qualms about flirting with him and pushing his buttons whenever she had a chance to. I admired how she didn't shy away from her feelings for Hollis. That being said, I also applauded the fact that Hollis did feel it necessary to pause and think every now and again because his friendship with Roman meant such a great deal to him, as did the blossoming romance with Aurora. At the end of the day, these two were adults who made the decision to pursue something that was more than a momentary thing. Kudos to Helena Hunting for creating a female main character who was as confident and self-assured as Aurora was, but then this is something Hunting is already known for. If You Want Me garners 4.5 stars.

@76% Chile, this started off good and then all the crying started *rolling eyes* I almost DNF the book! If it’s one thing I cannot stand is a new adult pretending to be mature. Hammer got on my last nerve; every single issue she had was of her own making. Girl, sit down and grow tf up 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’m especially partial to age-gap tropes in which Hunting challenges to a tee. To take matters further, the heroine’s dad has an exceptionally tight friendship with the hero she’s secretly been crushing on for the longest time. The tension build-up is a killer, making me read If You Want Me so fast that I had to slow down. But then I switched to the audio, meaning I could enjoy the narrators’ cadences at a more agreeable pace. Zachary Webber and Stellar Bloom make swoon-worthy hang-onto-every-word magic together, so if you can, listen to them.

I’d met the goalie Roman Hammerstein’s daughter, Peggy Aurora, in If You Need Me; however, getting to know her better was an absolute delight. Being career-driven and concerned for her future doesn’t hold her back from the few small pleasures in life. Always willing to please, she looks after the gorgeous hockey player, Hollis’ feline fur babes during his team’s away games. LOL! It wasn’t a case of ‘while the cat’s away’ because they’re noticeably in the foreground but on those lines. If Bloom’s suggestive if not embarrassing tone got me chuckling to myself in chapter one, Webber’s pitch-perfect narrating had me cracking up in chapter three!

I connected with Hollis in leaps and bounds, especially after learning about his own issues. But suddenly, he sees Aurora whom he’s friends with has grown into an amazing and beautiful young woman, so listening to his conflicted feelings aroused my sympathy for this highly respected guy. More than aware that Roman dotes on his daughter; how the team where she’d done an internship successfully and is working hard to get a permanent job with The Toronto Terror admin treat her like their princess, it’s easy to see why he’s in such a dilemma.

As details of Hollis and Aurora’s story were gradually revealed, I often wished I could’ve jumped into the book and had a tête-à-tête with them. You see, Hunting’s storytelling not only evokes all the emotions in this slow-burn romance which happens to be right up my alley but also entwines originality into laugh-your-socks-off moments.

Finding out what the BABrigade was up to, listening to their messages, the quirky banter and feeling like I was with the gals in their spontaneous get-togethers was something else. I loved the family and brotherhood dynamics, team camaraderie and the fun extras Hunting weaved into the story. Enjoy friends-to-lovers, off-limits age-gap romance? Then don’t miss out and get your one-click finger ready!

    📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚

If You Want Me - Helena Hunting

Thank you so much to the author for giving me early access to this wonderful book. This is my first read by this author and it was so good I now need to read all her other work.

Holiis is best friends with Peggy Aurora Hammerstein's Dad but she's had the biggest crush on him for the longest time. Her Dad can't quite accept that Peggy is grown up and wants to make a life for herself. He still sees her as his baby girl and is hugely overprotective. But when a highly embarrassing situation brings her crush right to the forefront and Hollis is left in no uncertain terms that the crush is aimed at him, he suddenly finds he can't quite keep his feelings in check as he's been noticing her in a different light lately.

As Hollis feels torn between his best friend Roman and his daughter Peggy (who wishes to be known as Aurora) he finds that he can't keep up the fight as their attraction soon becomes too much to bear.

This book is hot as hell. The chemistry between Hollis and Aurora is just off the charts. I loved them both and Aurora's cheeky sense of humour had me laughing out loud at times. I loved how she wasn't afraid to ask for what she needed. Hollis is HOT and he plays hockey! Normally I don't like the age gap trope but this is the second book I've read lately when it's been done so well that I loved this book. The Cat sitting and text exchanges are just so witty and I just loved everything about this book. It's just so, so good.

It definitely needs to be added to your to read lists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hollis and Hammer
Reviewed in Germany on October 10, 2024
This is the second book in this series and it follows the story of Hollis and Peggy. Despite being part of the Toronto Terror it can easily be read as a standalone.
We have a story full of bantering and delicious tension. Hammer is crushing on Hollis for forever. And now working for the hockey team he is being part of, she runs into him often.
And lately things have been different between them. Chemistry and more that is almost undeniable. Now we have to find out what Hollis will do and if he takes the risk.
Hollis is best friend’s with the Toronto Terror’s goalie, who happens to be Aurora’s dad. And while he feels the change between him and her, she is off limits. Beautiful, working hard and he has to fight what is developing between them.
With all the tropes and characters it was gonna be an amazing story. Their happy end was hard fought and well deserved.
