WHY DO WE FIND SEXUALITY SO, WELL ... SCARY?

Comedian Mae Martin investigates in this hilarious and intelligent guide to 21st century sexuality. Covering everything from the pros and cons of labels, to coming out and the joys of sexual fluidity, Mae ponders all the stuff we get hung up about - and then a bit more.

Wonderful book
I absolutely loved this book. It is funny, witty, and should be required reading. Mae speaks a truth that should be listened to, and absorbed into the way we act, love, and see one another.

Mae Martin is one of my favorite comedians, and I was a little late to reading this book. It's probably best for younger readers who are either exploring their sexuality or want to educate themselves on terminology and just how diverse sexuality can be. Some parts already feel outdated (Mae now identifies as they/them, and probably wouldn't use as many Harry Potter metaphors these days), but Mae does acknowledge this in the book by saying the dialogue is constantly changing and will continue to change, so there's still enough relevant educational material here. You'll get some chuckles too!

    A fun and quick read.
To a complete newcomer, the material is diverse and will have you struggling to put down the book. However, having been a fan prior to the book, there was a fair amount of repeated material from her stand-up.
Overall, I think it was well worth the price and would suggest it to anyone interested in the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Livro divertido e fácil leitura

Recomendo bastante!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly printed edition, huge disappointment
Reviewed in the Netherlands on January 6, 2022
I'm really disappointed by the printing, the large font size and line spacing is completely ridiculous, as if reading a children's book. I assume the content wouldn't even be a 100 pages long if it was printed in a normal design (and a readable font size). In addition, there are pages where there is only pattern, no content, and pages where there are a couple of speech bubbles and that's it, probably with the intention to make 4 sentences fill out a whole page.
To the content: I would not want to judge only by the layout but looking at just a couple of sentences are enough for anyone to see the quality of the writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mae makes learning fun!

Mae Martin does a brilliant job! It’s quite a challenging area that many people like me would like to understand better. And now I do and I totally enjoyed the experience. It’s a great book and Mae reads it superbly well. It’s very funny, it’s sometimes a bit sad but always interesting and I learned loads. Thanks Mae, so much, for writing this and reading it too. It’s wonderful.
