About the author
Brynne is a fan of velociraptors, the Alien movies (well, most of them), red wine, and wild adventures. She can relate nearly anything you say to a line from the movie Hot Fuzz. She has been trying unsuccessfully for years to convince her husband that they should acquire a pet mink to add to their menagerie of animals (what could possibly go wrong with that plan?!). When not busy writing, Brynne can be found with her husband and son on their family farm in NS, Canada, or enjoying her other passions which include riding horses, reading, motorcycling, and spending time with family and friends around a raclette and a bottle of wine.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2024For the past year, everyone has been talking about Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver , especially the audio version. I don’t usually read dark romances, but I love romcoms. This is a dark romcom! I was intrigued. Butcher & Blackbird was probably the #1 TikTok book for the past year, and some of the other big Booktok books I read were total letdowns. But I still had high hopes.
I am so happy to say that Butcher and Blackbird lived up to the hype. It was like nothing I’ve ever read before, which is definitely part of the appeal. The story was fun, but it was the personalities that made the book. Sloan and Rowan are both serial killers. They each kill the bad serial killers that the police can’t catch, but make no mistake, they LOVE the killing. Even though they have sometimes gone after the same guy, they have never met. When they finally do, it's at a murder scene that’s become a bit...shall we say... dicey for Sloan.
Sloan, “the orb-weaver” plucks her victims’ eyeballs out and turns her crime scenes into intricate web-like art exhibitions made from flesh and body parts. Rowan aka Butcher has been a big fan from afar but meeting her in person had him instantly falling for her. Their banter was so amazing! I know it’s weird to say about a serial killer, but Rowan was adorable. He was so sweet and romantic! Yes, I said that. Yes, I know he's a serial killer. What can I say? I'm a sucker for the sweet ones.
These two are complete psychopaths (as are their friends and family who we will read about in the next two books) and they were so much fun! I don’t read or watch horror at all, and some of this was pretty gross, but because of the humor, it was never too much for me.
"Rowan rests the handle of the ax against his shoulder and huffs before giving me a wink. “Getting revenge for hurting my girl, of course."
Likes:
•It’s so unique!
•Laughing while gagging.
•How can I fall in love with a serial killer?
•Rivals to lovers.
•Though he had insta-love, she took a while to catch up so it was slow-burn.
•But once they started burning…holy moly it was HOT.
•I loved that it pretty much ended with an HEA. It’s called a trilogy, but each book features a different couple.
•He was so sweet, and I loved how much he loved her.
Dislikes:
•The timeline jumps.
•I would have liked to get to know them on a deeper level.
The Narration:
OMG, this is one of the best narrations I have ever listened to. It’s full duet, so Lucy Rivers and Joe Arden had full-on conversations with her voicing the female parts and him the male. I am sure I wouldn’t have loved Butcher and Blackbird as much if I just read it, the narration made it so much better.
The Down & Dirty:
Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver isn’t perfect, but I can totally understand the hype around it. It’s unique, it’s dark, it’s funny, it’s raunchy, it’s gory, it’s romantic, and it’s hot AF. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend the audiobook. But make sure you listen to the trigger warnings. They are no joke, but they also made me laugh. “accidental cannibalism” anyone? I am so happy Leather and Lark,(book two) is out because I’m not ready to leave this world.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2024Brynne Weaver's Butcher & Blackbird is a unique blend of dark romance and thrilling suspense. The novel follows the unconventional pairing of Sloane, a cunning and charismatic serial killer, and Rowan, a brooding and intense butcher with a penchant for the dark arts.
Weaver's writing is sharp, witty, and surprisingly tender. She expertly balances the macabre details of her characters' murderous pursuits with moments of genuine affection and vulnerability. The banter between Sloane and Rowan is electric, and their twisted sense of humor adds a layer of levity to the otherwise grim narrative.
However, while the build-up to the climax is intriguing, the payoff may feel somewhat anticlimactic for some readers. The novel's strength lies in its character development and the unique dynamic between Sloane and Rowan, rather than the plot itself.
Despite this minor flaw, Butcher & Blackbird is a captivating read that will appeal to fans of dark romance and those who dare to venture into the shadow

- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2024This book is not your average romance. It’s dark and twisty with some humor imbedded into it. The story is about two “serial killers” who both have one thing in common. They only kill really really bad people. Kind of like Dexter but with more personality. The hero and heroine enjoy killing. The excitement and the adrenaline that follows the hunt. They especially love ridding the planet of truly evil people.
They understand each other which makes building a relationship seem easy, but our heroine is running scared and it takes the Hero a lot of small gestures to start to gain her trust. Slowly he chips away at her and breaks through. And when they do it’s hoooooooot and explosive. When I say hot, I mean the smut had me blushing!
There is a twist at the end I was not expecting and would never had guessed it was coming but that little twist is what made the book so enticing and it was in my opinion the best part of the book, writing and concept wise.
I don’t know if I’d would intentionally seek out another serial killer romance story again but the jacket for the second book in the series sounds good and I might just give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
I feel like I‘m late to the party! So glad I finally read this book. It’s dark, but it also is a sweet love story about two soulmates with a torturous past.
Please make sure you read the trigger warnings before starting the story. Cookie and Cream ice cream might never be the same…
Rowan Kane is the middle one of the three Kane brothers, who fled to the States from Ireland and their disastrous childhood in their teens. He is now a renowned chef in Boston owning the successful restaurant 3 In Coach. But he has a dark hobby: hunting and killing other serial killers.
Sloane Sutherland shares this dark hobby. „The Orb Weaver“ and „The Butcher“ finally meet when hunting down the „Beast of the Bajou“ in deep Louisiana. Sloane manages to kill him but gets herself in some highly uncomfortable situation, so Rowan showing up on the murder scene is not completely unwelcome.
There is an immediate attraction on both sides, but while Sloane is a meticulous killer, she is also unusually shy and not very trusting. Rowan falls fast and hard, and he is desperate to keep in contact, so he suggests an annual competition:
The Butcher & Blackbird - Annual August Showdown
7 days
Tie breaker by rock paper scissors
Best of Five
Winner takes the Forest Phantom
Rowan and Sloane first become friends while still fiercely competitive in hunting down the chosen killer of each year’s competition. Sloane slowly starts to trust Rowan. And when they face a chainsaw swinging monster in Texas, acting together might be the only thing to save them. And Sloane finally stops running…
