Happy After All: A Novel Kindle Edition
When a romance author meets a mysterious stranger, love is the last thing she expects to find in a funny and heartfelt novel about second chances by a New York Times bestselling author.
A city girl leaves her life behind in LA to start over in a small town…
It’s a cliché, but it’s also Amelia Taylor’s life. And her new life as a romance novelist and motelier is going great—until Nathan Hart checks in.
Of course he’s disastrously handsome, thoroughly disagreeable, and seems to be set against Amelia on sight. Of course there’s smoldering tension between them that can’t be ignored. They’d make the perfect enemies to lovers story. It’s one of Amelia’s favorite tropes.
But the man in room 32 seems genuinely broken, and it’s going to take more than romance tropes and wishful thinking to get past his wounds. As a tentative friendship grows into a deeper connection, Amelia and Nathan both realize that facing each other’s painful secrets takes courage. Do they dare take the risk and hope it ends happily after all?

Review
“Yates’s protagonists turn out to be perfectly matched as they help each other get over past heartbreak. Readers will have no trouble rooting for these two.” —Publishers Weekly
From the Publisher
Happy After All is an irresistible story of second chances that revels in the romance tropes that make love stories so iconic. Combining the beachy delight of reading Emily Henry with a dash of Colleen Hoover, this novel sparkles with humor, heartbreak, and the beauty of taking a chance on love.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024THIS book Had it ALL! Quirky intrigue filled scenes with smart dialogue along with some intense grief-related angsty moments between Amelia & Nathan. This adds fuel
To the fire of the chemistry that’s building
Between them. The fact that both Amelia & Nathan are writers with hidden tragic pasts made this a page turner immediately!
Pairing all this with a handful of long term motel elderly residents that tend to meddle,
made this one of my most favorite reads by this author to date! The advice & wisdom shared from these characters was spot on…. The intense depth of wisdom/conversations coupled with the plot revelations make this
An absolute must read for anyone
looking for hope & a very HAPPY AFTER ALL delightful read!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024This book was slow to start - I know we were using the "slow burn" trope, but it was a little *too* slow of a burn for me. That's the one and only reason it's not a five star read. I kept reading because I liked the main character and the cast of background characters is truly fantastic. And, I'm nosy, I wanted to know what the alluded-to tragedies were.
But once it got going, it sped up and then took off like a rocket (around 30-35% I'd say). I am not big into s*x scenes so I skipped through those, but the details didn't affect the storyline. the real gift of this book is the incredibly profound insights on grief and life after tragedy. Like, wow. I've never done well with hard times and this gave me a lot to think about.
I also loved how it was so meta about how "my life isn't a hallmark movie!" while clearly making it a hallmark movie, lol. I will offer a trigger warning - and this is no real spoiler because the direction of the tragedy is clear early on - there is pregnancy loss that is eventually discussed in a way that had me crying my eyes out. I haven't had a loss like that and it still hit like a kick to the stomach. So, think accordingly before reading now.
really well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2024I have read Maisey's books for years however this book was one for the soul. She take the reader through two very deep, painful personal journey's back towards happiness. So much of what she writes and how she conveys each characters heartache resonates with the reader. The descriptions she draws, about how each person is learning to truly understand one another, gives the reader points of views to consider about your own life. A way to understand your own pain and loss. But also how to walk a mile in the other person's shoes. And of course in true Maisey fashion the romance is fire. I loved the characters and the settings. I love her books. I read cover to cover in 2 days. Amazing book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024It seemed to go on for far too long. Slightly repetitive with some of the dialog. Overall a good read. I loved the characters of the residence and the community.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2024This author is new to me and I really, really liked this book. Everything was new to me, from the author, to the character backstories, and the setting. This had me feeling so much. Tears and laughter. Some internal dialogue seemed to get a bit long-winded but otherwise, great story overall.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2024Loved this book! It’s super well written, the depth of the characters is amazing, and the medium spice is just right! Love how the characters change and grow through the story and are super relatable (even though I hate pink). Great banter between the protagonists and excellent shenanigans from supporting characters. I highly recommend picking this one up and spending the day in the desert, because you won’t want to put it down until it’s done!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2024I stumbled on this book but I am so happy I chose to read! It is a wide range of emotions without being too heartbreaking. It explores so many intricacies of healing. All with some great romance & spice added! The reviews when I chose to read it weren’t great - so let me tell you if you are a regular romance reader that enjoys some slow burn/angst, read this!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024This book was a very slow burn. At times the inner monologue was tiring, however, it was necessary to connect with the main character. I’m giving this book 4 stars because I could put it down at any moment without longing to read the next chapter - though it was a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written story
A pleasure to read a book where the author is actually good at writing, with no obvious grammatical or spelling errors that I noticed. Story developed naturally without too much information too soon so that it was easy to keep track of characters.
