I use my expensive mandoline a lot (like hundreds of pounds of heavy root veggies), despite a healthy fear of its blade...which has accumulated a fair number of visible nicks and gotten dulled over the years.
I finally gave in and started researching what to do about it, hoping that I wouldn't need to purchase a whole new one...I decided to give these a try, even though I was a little nervous about using them myself to sharpen the blade...and they worked great. It was easy and took only minutes to remove four or five major blade nicks with the middle file that were interfering with my ability to make my absolutely perfect scalloped potatoes. Then i finished sharpening the rest of the blade with the finest grit. Just a quick wash and my mandoline was ready to go, without cutting myself.
It was easier to use than a traditional knife sharpener and useful in more situations. (I couldn't figure out how to use a traditional knife sharpener on my mandoline because I couldn't / didn't want to completely remove the blade.)
The filing surface was well-adhered to the plastic base.
I wish I didn't need to buy two sets given my limited need, although the price wasn't completely terrible, given the alternative was replacing my 60-70 dollar mandoline.
