Brrrrrrr!!
5 out of 5 stars
Brrrrrrr!!
We have a small room of about 120 sq ft that contains 3 PCs which dual function as space heaters. This room already stays fairly warm all on it's own, just to be clear. The PCs simply make the room warmer if not outright hot. This is great in the winter, as we can regulate the room temp by merely opening the window and using a fan or two. However, come late spring, the temps begin to hit 60+ F and higher this room can start becoming unbearable with two or three space heaters running. When the temps are 90 F and over, forget about it. Unless, of course, you're seeking that extra dry sauna experience and don't mind it costing you a new graphics card and possibly a new CPU as well.So we picked up this little bad boy hoping it would assist us in overcoming our desperation by providing the chill we so desire and our poor PCs so desperately need. This little thing is super easy to setup and install. As others have mentioned, depending on your window size, you may need to trim one of the insert pieces. Our windows slide horizontally and the insert was, quite fortunately, just the right size. Had the window been even an inch shorter we would have had to trim the insert extension so that it would not clip the hose. The included foam strips were nice, but a bit thin. You may need to double them up or even get some thicker padding to get a good seal. We waited 24 hours to turn it on but when we did, let me tell you that the tears of joy began to flow like Niagra Falls. With the unit set up and in place, we turned it on. The arctic blast that it produced felt nothing short of amazing. Not miraculous, mind you. Don't expect to keep your snowman best friend alive year round. But it is amazing! I set it to 66 F, let it run for an hour, and then began to stress test my PC to see if the temps would be lower than usual. The answer was filled with happy expletives but it essentially boils down to Yes! Yes it keeps the room and the PCs much cooler. My PC was testing at a minimum 10+ C cooler than before, even after three consecutive stress tests. The AC unit does produce some noise, but we find it more than acceptable given it's ability to keep the room cool.Later on we fired up two of the three PCs and started up a game that we know can push the computer temps up. After an hour of playing, when the room would normally be getting uncomfortable, we were literally just chillin' out and the PCs were running great at well under their usual operating temps. So we have been running this unit almost every evening and sometimes during the day too. Our warmest day has been about 80 F but I have no concerns when it comes to this thing keeping pace at 90 or even 100 F. If I'm wrong, then I will edit my review, but I'm feeling pretty confident that day will not arrive. For now, we are running it at 68 F when we turn it on and it is splendid to say the least. My only real complaint is that the screen on the remote doesn't work properly unless you pinch one corner of the remote down rather hard. Granted, we understand that this is likely a fluke and not indicative of most units. We honestly don't really use the remote so it's largely been a non-issue, but I could see it being a real disappointment and extreme inconvenience for some people, especially if they have mobility challenges. Overall, a great unit though. So do we:like it? Yes!recommend it? Yes!love it? Pretty much yes (but we're not going to marry it.)want a 2nd one for our bedroom? Yes yes yes!Despite the lost stars for the remote, we feel that the unit truly deserves an overall 5 stars as it is easy to set up, easy to operate, and works really well. Will be ordering another of the same (or possibly slightly more powerful) for our bedroom.

Unless, of course, you're seeking that extra dry sauna experience and don't mind it costing you a new graphics card and possibly a new CPU as well.

So we picked up this little bad boy hoping it would assist us in overcoming our desperation by providing the chill we so desire and our poor PCs so desperately need. This little thing is super easy to setup and install. As others have mentioned, depending on your window size, you may need to trim one of the insert pieces. Our windows slide horizontally and the insert was, quite fortunately, just the right size. Been researching portable AC units for 2 years. Yes, one of them, frugal maybe slightly cheap and must have at least 4-5 uses for something before I purchase. Biggest issue is that I wanted it for a room that has casement windows so I was hesitant to take on something that I knew would require a MacGyver. There, I dated myself with that reference. After the brutal summer in PA last year, I purchased it in March while still on the cheap side. Watched a lot of the customer videos on Amazon that had the same casement windows and of course, Youtube. Purchased and so glad I did. If you have an old house like mine, do not be deterred. The relief I am receiving is worth the little bit of carpentry and MacGyvering I had to do. Even this Spring in PA has been brutal and I needed this relief. Easy to install, the directions were clear. The tubing in the back was easily installed. The price was right. I cannot comment yet on the energy efficiency as I am waiting for my 1st electric bill from it (yikes) but whatever it is, worth it. The noise is no louder than a wall unit I have and I live on a busy street so it helps at night with an almost white noise. The cooling is amazing. I get home from work, turn it on, within an hour the heat becomes bearable. Only have it on the low setting for energy saver and it works perfectly in an approximately 450 sq. ft. area. Recommend highly.

To clarify I am reviewing the model number BP01PT "3 in 1 mini portable air conditioner". It's the one in a weird champaign color.

I was looking for a portable air conditioner for a very specific use case. I needed something that would blow cold air in a very small area while not necessarily needing to vent the hot air out a window. Alas, these types of devices do exist, and why I wanted one. Think of a garage space where you need to keep the door open to vent fumes, but you can't have any conventional window / mini split air conditioner running. This type of device is perfect for those scenarios, keeping a very specific small area (basically person) cool. You could also brute force a typical portable air conditioner to do the same thing I suppose, but then you're running a lot of extra electricity for that. They're also a lot bigger than this unit.

I was also looking for a device like this that could run on a portable battery as well - specifically a camping battery that is readily available nowadays. Unfortunately, the results of my testing equipment show wattage usage falls outside the range of smaller batteries and needs a mid-size one to function.

So, with the unit on cold mode (high or low), it runs on about 310 watts continuous. It also has a peak 2 second starting requirement of 1217 watts. These two numbers eliminate a lot of "entry" level camping batteries that can do 600 watts continuous, but only peak at 1200. Typically, those units have sensitive electronics that will immediately shut down the battery if it's even 5 watts over the max draw - which is understandable. Most batteries should handle the 310 watts continuous, but you're going to need the peak / surge wattage to be above 1217 (ideally 1300 or better).

This device does not magically pass the laws of thermodynamics. It will not cool a room unless you specifically vent the hot air outside via the included hoses. But even then, this was never designed to cool a room in the first place. Think of it as a very specific fan that guarantees cold and dry air up to 6 feet in front of it. It may also work as a tent air conditioner, but keep in mind its rated for 95F max and only has 1000BTU of cooling power. Since it runs at 310 watts, we know that the EER rating is a pathetic 3.22 (1000 / 310)

This device suits my needs perfectly for what I'm trying to achieve. But it's a very narrow use case, and I know that. If you're looking to do something similar, I would say "go for it". But chances are, there's probably better solutions if you have the space or know how to get there. The lone saving grace for this unit in a general sense, is that for cooling literally one single person in a room, 310 watts isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. Even the most efficient small room window air conditioner runs at 550 watts, and they require (you guessed it) a window to work. You also can't move them around, and this one is portable.

I bought this unit for our bedroom because it seemed to be a good value and we didn't need something too powerful. It cools effectively but it is NOISY as hell. My girlfriend and I sleep with earplugs when we use it because it's so loud. My roommate living in the room below me has complained about the noise too. DON'T BUY this for a bedroom unless you like sleeping with earplugs.
