4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 375 ratings

Air Force Pilot Charlie Matthews has flown to the farthest reaches of the world, but he can never seem to reconnect with his first, and only love. Will their latest reunion finally land them on a path to forever?

After years of service in the Air Force, Charlie Matthews is finally hanging up his wings and coming home for good to the Flying Cross Ranch to help his ailing pastor father. And after nearly a decade of short layovers and missed connections, Charlie is finally swooping back to sweep the love of his life off her feet. Unfortunately, he discovers the woman who makes his heart soar is about to depart on a one way ticket out of town.

Growing up in the foster care system, Savy James has always wanted her very own forever home. Now a foster mother herself, she’s devastated when the government declares her land protected for wild horses, meaning she and her ragtag bunch of foster kids will once again be uprooted, this time to the other side of the state. Being separated once again from Charlie is too much to bear, but he can’t leave his sick father and she’d never ask him to.

Determined to make this work, Charlie offers up his ranch to Savy and the kids. But the children aren’t used to his tough love. After Savy’s free-spirited ways, Charlie’s military style of discipline does not endear him to them. And when one of the kids makes a dangerous choice that leads a social worker to question their fitness as parents, Savy’s big, happy family is in jeopardy once again. Can a true love that's stood the test of time and space weather the storm of rebel youth?

Find out in His Vow to Love, the first in a series of heartwarming stories that prove that falling in love is an act of heroism, but finding family is life's most extraordinary achievement.

Shanae Johnson was raised by Saturday Morning cartoons and After School Specials. She still doesn’t understand why there isn’t a life lesson that ties the issues of the day together just before bedtime. While she’s still waiting for the meaning of it all, she writes stories to try and figure it all out. Her books are wholesome and sweet, but her heroes are hot and her heroines are full of sass!

And by the way, the E elongates the A. So it’s pronounced Shan-aaaaaaaa. Perfect for a hero to call out across the moors, or up to a balcony, or to blare outside her window on a boombox. If you hear him calling her name, please send him her way!

There are many twists and turns to this story, primarily about foster kids about to lose another home. It leaves the story open in the end, so you have to keep reading. Five kids with two of them brother and sister, all of them have their own issues, and are without their biological parents.

Traditional foster care was hard on both kids and families. When a child who has faced trauma was tossed into the mix, it was a recipe that rarely worked out in the kid's favor. That's where elevated care workers came in.

Not all foster kids came around to trusting their foster families. Denny had the perfect male role model to look up to. But, for how long?

Even though Charlie had proposed to Savy didn't mean it was going to help keep the kids together. Denny was about to lose his little sister because of her destructive manor which caused several injuries to herself. She had this idea she was a super hero and she could do anything. Daria thought she was fearless! But her medical record said something else. Even Mr. Davidson from the state had witnessed accidents which would put her into a rehabilitation foster home with elevated care.

"She's not ours!"
"These kids are wards of the state. I was just taking care of them."

But, in reality, Savy did more than care for them. She loved each and every one of them with every fiber of her being. These kids were hers in her heart, not legally. Charlie has an idea how he can remedy the situation, but you have to read the next book: His Vow to Treasure: A Sweet Second Chance Romance (a Flying Cross Ranch Romance Book 2) - JAG Officer Joe Matthews and Foxy James. Happy reading!

Another series start that branches with the Silverstone sisters. Learned a bit about foster care and the long lasting love story that finally comes together.

It's been a long time since I've read such a great, wholesome story. This is not your typical romance. I just wish that book one would continue more about Charlie, Savy and the kids and not go on to other characters.
And I don't like Amazon's idea of having to buy additional books in a series. Why can't they sell stand alone books anymore. I think it's a big rip off. Just too money hungry these days!

I was thoroughly enjoying this book, but was stunned when it suddenly ended.
The reader is assured that all will end well, but I wanted to "go to the wedding" and the official adoption. Hence, my 4* not 5*.

This was a great book!! I loved all the foster children and their stories. This seems like a series that I can really get into and love. Many bold characters and deep story lines.

I liked the love between Savy and Charlie. Savy really cares about the foster children in her care also. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
