Purchase options and add-ons
Things don’t go to plan during their journey and little mishaps happen along the way. Luckily Finlay knows first aid so he can help others when they are hurt. Finlay is always prepared with his first aid kit in case of any emergency that he may come across during his adventures. The journey is taking a lot longer than expected resulting in a search party being put together by Mamma and Papa Bears. There are also strange noises coming from the mountain at night which has little Evee scared!
Finlay can’t wait to share his skills with you so that children will know what to do in an emergency.
It is a wonderfully written adventure story and educational with footnotes and illustrations on some basic first aid skills such as calling for help on the phone, bleeding, burns, nosebleeds, dehydration and more, so children can help their friends and family. Even parents may learn a skill or two by reading the book to their children and practicing the skills with them with a first aid kit.

This is more than a story about Finlay the First Aid Bear and his desire to take a walk in the mountains with his little sister, Evee. It is about all the basic tools and tips needed to understand how one can take care of themselves when on such a journey.
So…
With Finlay sharing all this basic knowledge for readers, it helps and teaches them how best to prepare for a hike, as well as enjoy the adventure of Finlay and his sister, while still being prepared if something should happen.
But…
The author unfortunately creates a huge no-no for me. A cliffhanger. I recognize that this is book 1 and with her “to be continued” the author is encouraging readers to want to read book 2…
But…
She left a very important part of the story (no spoilers from me) without an ending. (Maybe me sharing this, is a spoiler.) All that I can think about is…
How will the kids feel about this important lack of resolution to the story? Will it be another teaching moment for the parents/teachers reading along with the kids?
Still…
For me, I like to read a book with a beginning, middle and an end. When an end is missing, it is an automatic star breaker for me.
Other than that, the story was…
Encouraging. Delightful. Helpful. Educational. Fun.
And…
Enjoyable for young readers and adults reading along with them.
