Jock Rule: A Grumpy Sunshine, Friends to Lovers, College, Rugby, New Adult RomCom (Jocks On Campus) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 4,022 ratings

Kip Carmichael is no pretty boy. He's a rough. Dirty. Giant. Hair so unruly, and a beard so thick, his friends on the team call him Sasquatch. The first time Sasquatch lays eyes on Theodora "Teddy" Johnson across the keg at a party one night on Jock Row, she'd been relegated to the sidelines by her jock hungry "friends."

Week-after-week, he watches beautiful but bashful Teddy getting overshadowed, and overlooked. Sasquatch finally broad shoulders his way through the crowd, offering to to be her hairy godmother. But the minute their eyes meet? He's a goner.

Teaching her the RULES for winning a jock will be the easy part. Not falling in love with her is going to be a losing game.

♡ Well damn! This was so freaking close to a 5 star read for me that I'm actually really shook right now. I love Sara Ney's writing and I loved this book!♡ I love that Teddy and Kip started off as (begrudgingly) friends and then with time, more. I love that Kip saw her at the party and even though he's surly and wants nothing to do with women or anyone, he couldn't help but want to help her.♡This book definitely has the "grouchy/a-hole hero with the sweet(albeit a bit naive) heroine" and honestly I was here for it.♡What I wasn't here for was the girl hate and the way that Kip judged girls for wanting to go to parties just to have sex with the players. Yes, it's obvious these girls may be doing this just in the hopes of snagging a player but there's really no need for slut shaming and I hate that Sara Ney's (and a lot of NA sports romances if we're being honest) feel the need to shame girls for sleeping around.♡Also, why do so many of her books have the "my friend sleeps around and is a horrible friend" trope? I will admit that we do get some good girl-friend scenes but with her new friends and I'm not saying there aren't bad friends out there because there definitely is but it's just something I've noticed with this author's books.♡I wish there was more because I thought Kip and Teddy were so cute together and this book definitely felt a bit short but nonetheless I really enjoyed it!

I don't know why, but my tolerance for New Adult - College is completely different to New Adult - Contemporary. I LOVE New Adult - College. I think it helps that Sara Ney's characters generally are at College to work hard, get their degree, and prepare for the next stage in their lives. Sure, there's drunken shenanigans and immaturity that leads to mistakes but it's not the focus of the story. Most of her characters are thoughtful, hard-working and determined to succeed. I absolutely loved Jock Rule from beginning to end.

I'm married to a bearded man so I loved that Kip, the main character was bearded too. His character was refreshingly different. At first, he comes across as an absolute jerk, but as time goes on and we get to know him better, you come to understand why he's become that way. When he sees Teddy standing alone at a Jock Party, he's intrigued and goes out of his way to find out more.

Teddy is a bit of a pushover and is forever being taken advantage of by her supposed best friend. It's something Teddy has always tolerated but when she's called out on it by a mammoth bearded jerk, it embarrasses her. The stranger decides that she needs a "hairy godmother" to guide her through the challenges of gaining a backbone. Shy and timid Teddy is not at all keen, but Kip - the hairy godmother, is determined and gives her Rules to follow.

I loved that Kip is very different from most rich kids and if anything, just wants to be normal. He hides his pretty face behind his beard because he wants to be appreciated for himself not his looks or bank balance. I had a huge smile on my face when I realised that Kip's sport was Rugby. Both my boys play rugby and it cracked me up when it was described as such a vicious and bloody sport. I had a bit of a chuckle when the author talks about the players wearing cups to protect their bits and pieces, and had to share it with my boys. My boys gave me a smirk but were very quizzical too, on how you can play rugby with a cup in. You don't wear cups in Australia.

This story, while fairly short, packed a lot into it. We see Kip learn to drop his barriers and let Teddy see the real him. As the story progressed, Teddy comes to realise that she doesn't deserve to be ignored, disregarded or used as she has been up until now. Her strength grows with her confidence and she even comes to realise that she can't always judge a book by its cover.

I loved that both Teddy and Kip start their relationship based on friendship and scoffed at the idea of them being together. When the time came for things to change, you knew that their attraction is not based solely on lust which was refreshing.

Jock Rule was thoroughly entertaining and left me with a big goofy smile at the end. It was very sexy without being overly sexual. By that, I mean that the characters don't get to the nitty gritty from the start. It was slow moving with intimate touches that showed their connection forming. No slam bam in this one and I loved it more for it.

I loved all of the characters I met, enjoyed the storyline and believed that Kip and Teddy had something special that would last. I definitely recommend Jock Rule and I can't wait to read more of Sara Ney's stories in the future.

Sara Ney is fantastic with college athletic romances. I cannot resist them, and Jock Rule was a great one.

    Summary:

Kip Carmichael has learned the hard way that people can be users and hard to trust. He's taken great pains to hide in plain site. His mountain-man beard, unruly hair, and giant size makes it easy for him to avoid social interactions with most of his peers. He's happy to prop up the wall with a beer and people-watch. At least he is until he sets eyes on Theodora "Teddy" Johnson. Kip watches as week- after-week, Teddy is sidelined by her jock-chasing friends. It's painful to watch, and eventually Kip can't take it anymore. He goes against his usual loner instincts, and offers to be her hairy godmother. He'll teach her all she needs to know to win her own jock boyfriend. But he never anticipated his teachings biting him in the a$$. Teddy is beautiful and shy, but also smart and funny. How is he not supposed to fall for her himself?

    *************************

The Jock Hard series is proving to be a very entertaining read, and I just can't get enough! Kip and Teddy were an interesting match at first glance, but fit very well together, in the end. Teddy is a complex heroine in that she wasn't shy, but she could be way too nice. Her life hasn't been easy, but she's determined, works hard, and has accepted who she is and the life she was given. I really connected with that since I'm from a similar background. She was also smart, funny, and witty. My only issue with Teddy came towards the end with her behavior before the banquet. In my opinion, it wasn't nice, and really disappointed me since I wasn't expecting that from her. Kip was something. Lol. Not only was he a mountain of a man, but he was blunt and honest which could be intimidating. I loved that he was so down to Earth even with how he grew up. His easy confidence and slightly arrogant demeanor was funny and oddly endearing, too. I loved his relationship with his sister, but do wish we got a better look at what made him avoid girls and people in general, too. As a couple, Kip and Teddy could be awkward, but this worked for them. I loved how they started dating without either of them really realizing it. Haha. Their steamy scenes were very hot, and I enjoyed that it wasn't a race just to have sex. The buildup was sexy and sweet, too. My only issue stems from the tension surrounding the banquet and after. It's brief, but I worried it resolved too quickly. Overall, this was another fantastic addition to the series. I found myself smiling happily at the end. Kip and Teddy gave us a lighthearted read with some laugh-out-loud moments and a sweet romance. I've read this sort of storyline before, but Jock Rule had that little bit of something that set it apart. Supporting cast was only so-so for this book. They really brought nothing to the table, and I wish we had gotten to see more of the previous couples in the series instead. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes NA Sports Romances with a bit of humor thrown in. ♡

This was such a sweet story packed full of fun and laughter. I absolutely adored Kip the hairy-godmother Viking and Teddy the naive nice girl. Their chemistry was amazing and the story never dulled or waned, it was consistent comedy and steamy sexual tension.

This is actually the second book in a row that I’ve read that didn’t have a bunch of unnecessary drama and conflict between the main characters and it’s nothing short of refreshing to read. These two bicker and banter but it’s light and fun, you never have to get anxious or freak out that everything is imploding and that piece of mind is worth an almost perfect rating stars to me.

Of course a lot of factors went in to this being a fantastic story. The character development was great, Kip is one of my favorite leading men that Sara has written. He’s surly, hairy, blunt to a fault and unknowingly smitten. I loved watching him crack, and I loved the journey to get there even more. Teddy was written wonderfully, I started the book off wanting to punch her in the boob for being such a pushover and ended the story wanting to be best friends.

This one is a winner, don’t miss out on this hilarious tale of total opposites colliding and crashing into a total chaotic love story.

This was such an enjoyable read, what I would call a 'fluffy' romance because it was light and not too emotional but I loved the characters and it was a feel good story. Overall very enjoyable! Better than the first in the series and they aren't connected so you don't need to read them in order!

I bought it on release day because I was so looking forward to it. Then I saved it for when I knew I wanted to read a book that would be awesome.
I'm always trying to safe my reads for longer reading pleasure.. It doesn't work that way, but I can't do otherwise.

In the beginning I thought of Kip as an ass? Maybe not one entirly but still not someone who I liked. But that changed quite quickly actually. He is a nice guy if you get his pov otherwise you will need time.

Teddy is an easy girl to like/love! She is so sweet and so caring! Didn't like her friend Mariah from the start it felt like a witch..

It's such an lovely book to read at the last day of the year! (And every other day of the year!)
