This has so much insight and information about how to practically use a ham/gmrs radio that you couldn’t find anywhere else. All the amateur radio people on the internet care about is playing with fancy gizmos and having friendly conversations. This will tell you how to use a cheap radio in a way that is actually useful in a bad situation. You can find it for free online but maybe you are like me and you want this information to be available when the internet isn’t working

I had seen this book and passed it off as another book that like so many I've seen would be a waste. I never even read the description, I just figured it was all about baofengs (which I have several of). Then I got it recommended to me by someone who I really respect and decided maybe I should try it out. So glad I did, there is a ton of info in here that is presented in a non ham way that is not related to baofengs. Not annoyingly complicated, not too vague, just right to be perfectly digestible and useful. I knew most of what this book contained, but putting it together how it's presented for use here is something I'd have to be taught and likely have never thought about. Sometimes you just want to know the applications without a ton of theory. There's only a few short sections on the baofeng itself and the rest is about comms and can be applied to any radio and any band. I have my general and the only reason I have a license is to practice for when it may be necessary for this application. Important part of what this book teaches is learn it by heart and PRACTICE. All the theory in the world won't get you anywhere if you haven't put it to practice and sorted it out. Some questions I have had but wouldn't know who to ask are also answered in this book.

This isn't a how to use your baofeng, although there is a ton of information about that contained in the book. It's more implementing a communication plan using the baofeng due to its worldwide popularity. Great information, nice, easy to read printing. Illustrations. I like it.

Even for beginners. It's likely to get people like me a lot more seriously into practical use of radio and comms.

This has a very coherent and cogent description of the strengths and limitations of line-of-sight analog radios. It's got great information on antennas, a bit of how they work without getting too technical. You can read how to, and when to, make your own antenna if that applies to you. And a lot more. I like how the author sets up three primary roles of communication. Without giving away too much, I think the Sustainment mode is where most of my friends would find useful information. You should buy this book and read it cover to cover.

Quite an interesting book and seems to cover a lot of information regarding the baofeng. My only gripe would be it's a bit lite on radio basics and assumes a certain level of prior knowledge.
