The other books I ordered pretty much just explained what social processing disorder is and how the brain is misfiring or whatever, and honestly they scared the crap out of me and we’re quite depressing to read. This book though. This book gives me hope and helps me to help my baby.
Pros:
I love that the author describes each sensory signal. I helps to understand what part of my child is disregulated. Information is presented with a short explanation and then a list of strategies to implement.
Cons:
The book is not organized in any fashion. At the very least an alphabetized table of contents, an index, or contents by seeking/avoiding. I had to just read the table of contents and mark which ones described my son. Then I went through each page and took notes by category; sensory seeking, noise, soothing, etc.
I am happy I have it in my personal library as a tool. I just wish the info was better organized for quick reference.
I have a daughter on the Autism spectrum and have cared for 3 other kiddos with Autism in my home (foster kids) for years. We've also gone through years and years of occupational therapy and got to the point where we built an occupational therapy gym in our home. This book has such helpful suggestions and has served as an extremely helpful tool with our kiddos.
Oftentimes us parents of kids on the autism spectrum or with Sensory Processing Disorder, don't have time to read a book. But THIS book just lists the issue in the table of contents (ie: is fearful of washing hands), and on the indicated page, it gives a brief overview of what the child is experiencing followed by a bullet-pointed list of ways and ideas to help them cope. This is an excellent guide to cope with individual issues without making you read through page after page of information that does not apply to your kid. I highly recommend this book!

If in doubt, consider sensory needs in our children. If you want to know more, consider the polyvagel theory.
Just a small problem, the book has no index so its hard to find information: I read something great and then later want to look that cool thing up and its a little bit painful, pages are not organized or grouped together with a certain theme. So the sensory issues are mashed together and really so far only luck helps me save time when trying to find things...
