Love Like You Mean It: The Heart of a Marriage that Honors God Paperback – July 7, 2020
Purchase options and add-ons
Unfortunately, many people have a shallow, superficial idea of what marriage is. As a result, many marriages don’t last, and many more married couples are trudging along looking for something more.
Love Like You Mean It gives husbands and wives a biblical understanding of what real love looks like in marriage by unpacking the ten attributes of genuine love listed in 1 Corinthians 13. Bob Lepine, marriage and family expert and host of the nationally syndicated radio program FamilyLife Today, helps husbands and wives discover that it’s not primarily emotions that define marital love, but actions and decisions that fuel emotions and cause marital love to grow.
Every person who is married, would like to be married one day, or wants to understand more about the biblical vision of marriage will find what they’re looking for as they dive deep into Love Like You Mean It.

New from author and beloved FamilyLife Today radio host Bob Lepine
God created each one of us with a deep longing. We yearn to be fully known and fully loved. We all want people who “get us,” who cheer us on, and who fill in the gaps in our lives.
Somewhere along the way, however, we’ve lost sight of the qualities that define the kind of love that is necessary for a marriage to be all that it was designed to be.
We have the portrait of the kind of rugged, committed love that sustains marriages in good times and bad. Some of us even had the description of this kind of love read at our weddings. With friends and family assembled, someone opened a Bible to 1 Corinthians 13.
What the Bible promises us is this: the kind of greater love found here is the pathway to joy. It’s the real thing. It’s the kind of love that will bring real, deep-down, soul-level contentment.
It’s time to begin a new journey that’s designed to help you become a more loving spouse.
It’s time to understand what real love looks like.
It’s time to love like you mean it.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020Love Like You Mean It is a superb commentary on 1 Corinthians 13 by author and pastor, Bob Lepine. But it is more than a commentary. It is a very practical handbook on the love relationship of the two parties involved in a marriage. Bob digs out the real meaning of love, as God means it. It is not just an emotional feeling but it is a deliberate plan to seek the highest good of the other individual, and especially as it is carried out in marriage. All of the attributes of real, biblical love--it is not irritable, does not rejoice at wrongdoing, rejoices with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things, never ends, etc., etc., are dealt with in a precise and convicting fashion. You will wish that you had practiced that type of love in your own relationships with others, especially with your spouse. This is a book to purchase and give to others. In fact, after reading it I gave my copy to a couple who are about to get married. I told them, "here is my marriage counsel to you. If you will follow it, you will have a successful marriage."
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2023This book is a good read for anyone interested in marriage. Those who think they know what marriage is all about, those who are about to get married, and married couples. It offers what a Christian marriage based on Godly principles is all about.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2022I Loved the Dialog, It is a great book of encouragement for women who are in Leadership.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2022I would recommend this book to anyone who has problems with relationships. As a widow I read this book to understand the real meaning of love. The love Jesus has for us to die for our sins.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2021Good book. A must read. Even if I didn't exactly agree (or fully agreed/not there yet with agreement) with something, it’s still a great book.
