Gary Paul Gates’ testimony, “Surviving What Could Have Been,” is a personal reflection on his childhood leading into his high school years, drawing parallels to the tragic events at Columbine High School and the impact they had on him. The book is inspired by the story of Rachel Joy Scott, the first student killed at Columbine, and the author’s realization that his own experiences were not as unique as he once believed.

Gates recounts his personal journey, sharing stories and thoughts that have never been publicly disclosed before. He explores the challenges and anxieties he faced as a teenager, including a sense of foreboding about the future. The book serves as a testament to the guidance and presence of God in his life, even during the darkest of times.

In a world facing challenges, Christians are called to be beacons of hope. Gary Paul Gates believes in the incredible impact of kindness, especially during these difficult times. Inspired by the Bible and guided by his faith, he encourages us to reach out with compassion. These acts aren’t just random good deeds - they’re opportunities to connect with others and inspire them through the teachings of Jesus.

For almost 25 years, Gary has quietly served his faith behind the scenes. Now, he’s stepping forward to use media to reach those who may have lost their way. While acknowledging the negative influence of media, Gary believes the message of hope and love found in the Gospel is far stronger.

Whether speaking directly to congregations or through his online platforms, Gary faithfully shares the Bible’s teachings. His mission is to ignite a wave of kindness that shines brightly even in difficult times.

A look into the mind of our Youth

A look into the mind of our Youth
Surviving what could have been, is a unique and interesting novel. It allows us to peer into the mind of our youth, their fears, nightmares, and concerns. It allows us to have a first-person vantagepoint of what it is like to experience your home being torn apart by the tragedy of divorce all the while feeling a strangely familiar sense of understanding. Despite if you have been a victim of "What Could Have Been" or simply have been blessed to have observed from afar, yet deal with very real internal fears, this book allows you to take a scriptual, biblical approach on how to deal with those scenarios.

This book is so well written. It is easy to follow and draws you in the whole time wanting to know more and the end of the story. It is a tearjerker that is for sure, but ends up being a hallelujah praise to God at the end of the day! I love how the book engages you in a very personal way as well, as the author has included questions and answers sheets like a workbook, getting you to engage with your own self and our Creator God. This book would also be a very good book for anyone to read that has been through a school shooting. A very comforting book for anyone struggling with PTSD from any active shooter situations. This book is a true blessing from the Lord.
