Purchase options and add-ons

An exploration of the eviscerating experience of loss — not due to death but abandonment — and the grief pursuant. A look at the cost of treading a lesser walked path; chasing deep truth, a great love, and living with consequences unforeseen. The words in this book are drawn from old wounds, self-inflicted isolation, grief, trauma, and love. They offer up a glimpse of reality without the rose-colored hue, and a new perspective on the growth that only suffering can evoke.

For the heartbroken, the lost, the hopeless, the bereft, the love-sick, the weary, and the forgotten.

May beauty, in all her severity, find you here.

Joanna Frost is a writer and poet born and raised on the west coast. She spent half of her formative years on an 11-acre farm and the other half in the bustling city of Portland. Thus, she holds deep ties to both landscapes, pulling imagery and perspective from both nature and structure.

She has never been shy about expressing her experiences with childhood trauma, grief, and the pursuant loneliness that comes with navigating these intense emotions and experiences.

She spends her free time out on the city streets or in the wilderness with her camera, re-reading her favorite authors, and grabbing a matcha latte at a local coffee house.

‘Heavy Water’ is a brutally vulnerable collection of works which embodies the damaging impact of narcissistic parenting and abandonment. The author, Joanna, has employed her many gifts in order to share her story which echoes a voice of the many who have endured similar experiences. Many survivors lose their voice as a result of their trauma. Joanna’s words vividly capture the essence of sorrow, grief, acceptance, and the wide breadth of emotions we experience after trauma and loss. At the same time, her book reflects her strength as she has created a masterpiece from her experiences.

I was honored to see the world through Joanna’s eyes. She truly is an artist. Her words paint vivid pictures as she personifies the range of emotions that follow the grieving process. Her photography is quite evocative and was a beautiful addition to her work. The talent my friend and newly published author possesses is truly remarkable.

This book is full of emotions. I didn’t know what I was getting into so I rushed to read the whole book. But then I found that the best pace to read would be slowly with pauses and even re-read…to digest every emotion the author put out there. The poems are short and very powerful. It takes you to different experiences of wisdom and innocence, fragility and despair, loneliness and hope, loved how powerful nature plays role in describing the feelings. Truly eloquent voice to tell a story.

I've had the pleasure to watch this book come to life and I'm so proud to see it finished! I've always told Joanna my most favorite part is watching her read these poems to me. I can see the pain, grief, deep love & happiness each one feels like to her. It's like she writes out of body and she feels exactly what each poem means to her. The pictures are from some of our best trips and memories.
P.s. Nice legs 😉

Joanna has an absolute gift with words! She can describe a feeling perfectly and her descriptions touch the very core of your soul. I too found myself going back and rereading lines and passages and marveling at the beauty and depth of her words. Reading this collection even inspired me to begin penning my own thoughts. I highly recommend curling up with this collection and letting the words take you on a rich emotional journey.

I’ve never been much of a poetry reader but wow, I think this book converted me. I was a bit concerned how I’d feel while reading some parts that were heavier but the inner child in me that was so hurt in the past, felt more seen than anything. I think that’s a powerful testament of this book. To bring about emotion and all it’s rawness and messiness.

This is the best book of self I’ve ever read. She was able to say the words that I couldn’t, in certain points of my life. It’s emotional, captivating, healing and eye opening. The vulnerability and giving of self is breathtaking. I highly recommend!
