Yes, assembling this is a little finicky. The unit is completely wobbly until you put the backing on so plan ahead before building. I built it face down and flipped it upside down to put the base on. After that I laid it sideways and installed the backing. It was solid enough to pick up and move around after that. Once I anchored it into the wall it is rock solid and does not move at all.
People having screws blow out the sides or breaking the twist locks must be using power tools. I’m one of the first to use power tools but in this case after reading the reviews I built everything by hand and had absolutely no issues. Overall I highly recommend this media rack if you have some patience with it when assembling. It managed to hold my entire game collection and still have room to spare. That was something I had never been able to do before.
