I wasn't sure about the brackets as I though the light would look bulky...but it is not.... It is very slim / flat and the brackets simply allow you to extend the length of the light to fit above multiple size tanks.
I have it above the water (Yes, it is waterproof to splashing or even if it fell in the tank), but not meant to work underwater for years...since this is a common question.
You have to use the app to control the light, so you will need a phone that can support this light.
Lights are bright with many settings and is is very easy to understand and set up without reading the directions if you are inclined to do so.
