"A pastorally sensitive and theologically informed book.” ―Gerald Hiestand, Senior Associate Pastor, Calvary Memorial Church; Executive Director, The Center for Pastor Theologians
We live in a deeply broken world . . . but there is hope.
Sexuality is a fundamental part of what it means to be human―part of God’s beautiful design when he created all things. And yet, sex in our world today looks nothing like the way that God intended it to be. Sexual brokenness surrounds us and, in one way or another, affects us all.
This sexual brokenness reveals our deep need for redemption―something quick fixes, mere behavior modification, or a set of rules can’t provide. Honest and direct yet kind and caring, this book points us to the only place we can find help for sexual brokenness―the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. Only this grace offers hope for a life of freedom, purity, and joy as God intended.

Editorial Reviews
Review
“Sex in a Broken World is a wise and needed reminder about the deep roots of sin and the even deeper power of the gospel. This is a pastorally sensitive and theologically informed book. I recommend it.”
―Gerald Hiestand, Senior Pastor, Calvary Memorial Church, Oak Park, Illinois; author, The Pastor Theologian
“Paul Tripp has dealt with many important issues common to Christians. Now he takes up another, in his customarily engaging style. This time, he addresses what is perhaps the most important moral issue of the church today: sexual brokenness.”
―Ronald J. DeHaas, CEO, Covenant Eyes, Inc.
“Paul Tripp’s writing always challenges, encourages, and inspires me. Sex in a Broken World did just that. Sexuality can be beautiful, but it’s also broken, so we have to be honest about the topic. If you read this book with an open and humble heart, God will use it to deepen your passion for Christ and help you discover a life of freedom, purity, and joy.”
―Craig Groeschel, Pastor, Life.Church; author, Daily Power: 365 Days of Fuel for Your Soul
“Once again, Paul Tripp has graciously and pastorally applied the comfort and challenge of the gospel to the street-level reality of our lives. This time, with Sex in a Broken World, sexuality and relationships are unpacked and explained in a way that leads readers to be gently discipled, not scolded or made to feel shame. I am so grateful for a book that I can recommend to women, who, like men, need the hope and wisdom of Christ applied to this aspect of their humanity!”
―Ellen Mary Dykas, Women’s Ministry Coordinator, Harvest USA; editor, Sexual Sanity for Women
“Lots of books are written about sex, but none of them are like this one. This book is an unapologetically God-centered view of sex, exploring not only how God intended it to work, but also why it so often does not. Paul Tripp, who has to be one of our generation’s most insightful Christian thinkers, asks questions in this book that few people of faith dare to ask: Why did God create me with unfulfilled desires? Why do I so often feel disappointed? What does God really feel toward me when I fall to those same temptations again and again? You will not only read this book, but you will devour it, and you’ll likely find yourself recommending it to everyone you know.”
―J. D. Greear, author, Gospel: Recovering the Power that Made Christianity Revolutionary and 12 Truths and a Lie: Answers to Life’s Biggest Questions
“Sexual insanity has taken over our world, so we need sane counsel from a wise counselor. Paul points us to Christ, grounds us in truth, and navigates a pathway through the craziness. Would you expect anything less from Paul Tripp?”
―Deepak Reju, Pastor of Biblical Counseling and Family Ministry, Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, DC; author, The Pastor and Counseling and She’s Got the Wrong Guy
“This is everything we’ve come to expect and appreciate from Paul Tripp’s writing: searing realism about ourselves and unbounded confidence in the power of the gospel to bring insight, wisdom, and restoration. This is an urgently needed book and will be an eternal blessing to many.”
―Sam Allberry, Associate Pastor, Immanuel Nashville, Tennessee; author, One with My Lord
“This wonderful book shines the bright hope of the gospel into the deep darkness of guilt and shame. Not simply scapegoating our post-Christian culture, Paul ‘normalizes’ a universal human struggle that afflicts every child of God. Like me, you will find yourself in these pages: assured you’re not worse than others and that your loving, heavenly Father understands your weakness, offered up his Son to redeem your sexuality, and poured out his Spirit to empower your transformation. Join me in celebrating with Paul our great God who redeems broken things!”
―David White, Director of Targeted Discipleship, Harvest USA; author, Sexual Sanity for Men
“Many books today confront the sexual brokenness of the modern world. Precious few equip you to spot counterfeit hopes while leaving you with an exhilarating sense of true hope. I know of no better antidote to our sexualized age than Sex in a Broken World. Read it, examine your own heart and habits, and soak in the renewing, restoring, overcoming grace of Jesus Christ.”
―Owen Strachan, Associate Professor of Christian Theology, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; coauthor, The Grand Design; coeditor, Designed for Joy

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2019From the beginning the author tells us the cold, hard truth. This is what we need to hear to be awakened. Shocked awake, as it were, as we read the facts about how we deceive ourselves. Then as we are properly informed about our condition and powerlessness, he brings forth that life giving truth that is the gospel, God with us, using all things, even these, for our good. No devastation is to far gone for the saving power of the gospel. These truths are powerful, and put in such a way that we realize we are not alone!
This book is for anyone who’s life has been “destroyed” by sexual sin. You will start to hope again, and smile again, even in hard moments. I would also encourage anyone else to read it.
To the author: I thank you for writing this book, for filling it with truth, and with words of life.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024This book is so eye opening to the pure insanity that is in all of us. We will do good to study the truths that are found in this book and to study what the Bible says about sex. I never had anymore teach me this,I wish my dad would have said something like this when I was a kid. I recommend this book to every child to understand that there is a higher standard in sex.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2018This book affected me in many ways, the writing of Tripp is beautiful and engaging and his examination on the subject of sexual temptation and our struggle, including the why and how was mind opening and made me realize truths that I had never contemplated or considered. I absolutely devoured the first half of the book, the second half to me was not as endearing as the first. Tripp likes to repeat himself but this, I believe, is done by the author to be more beneficial to the reader rather than detrimental but sometimes I felt as though I had read a point that was made multiple times, so I feel that the chapters could have been condensed a little. A solid work that I would recommend to males and females in every stage of life.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2024Highly recommend, just finished the book and looking forward to more books by Paul Tripp.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2021I have read many books over the years dealing with this very subject. This is an issue every man deals with day by day and often moment by moment. Paul describes it as sexual insanity, and he is right. With two boys coming of age, this is a great book to read and to pass on the wisdom. Believe me when I say I need it first. Paul David Tripp has truly hit the proverbial “nail on the head”. You will not be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2021I didn’t get too excited about it in the beginning. But as I read and toke the whole of the book in, I realized the full picture he was painting and it was tremendous. Worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2024I tried really hard to get as much as I could from this book. There’s nothing technically wrong here - author uses scripture and “real-life” examples to offer important guidance.
That said, “real-life” is in air quotes for a reason. Tripp is characteristically exuberant in his faith, lending a saccharine and unrealistic tone throughout. His examples are alternately mundane and way over the top, perhaps in an attempt to identify with readers of all stripes, but instead leading the reader to believe this man has never been tempted by sexual sin beyond taking offense at a beer commercial.
I can’t take this author’s advice seriously.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2018I butt-ordered this book on my Kindle app. I needed something to read for a few trips I was taking. It was such a surprise, I would not have picked this based on the title, but God's hand was in it. The gospel applied to our sexual lives. Super encouraging and so uplifting. I think most if not all folks need to read this. Paul Tripp does such great job explaining simple but profound truths in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book!
Good to read about a biblical view of sex. It was challenging in many ways. Thinking about the fact that God created us as sexual beings. Looking at His grace, mercy and provision for us.
