Violetta: A Fae in the House of the Fairies (Eleganta series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

Ten years after the march of Sunderin and capture of Ethywyne Eleganta, the trolls continue to poison the Fairy Realms, and Violetta, Queen of the Faes, occupies the Fairy Castle. The surviving fairies live in hiding on the Isle of Naviila where they’ve sheltered Ethywyne’s daughter Lira, the only fairy youngling.

When Violetta ensnares Lira with a promise to help find Ethywyne, the fairies are forced into a questionable alliance. As they struggle to unravel the tangled web of secrets motivating Violetta’s mysterious actions, the fairies must return to the Realms and embark on a perilous quest that will decide the fate of Fairykind.

This second entry in the Eleganta trilogy is a tale of goblin pirates, hidden chambers, unpleasant men, magical beards, hairless wolves, fabulous feasts, impeccable fairy hospitality, a chilling game of hide and seek, a plethora of fairy dust, and so much more. It’s a story of trust and betrayal, of redemption and revenge. It’s the tale that must be told.

The Tale That Must Be Told

Editorial Reviews

Review

"In a world hungry for tales of magic and wonder, Violetta emerges as a beacon of storytelling excellence." -Book Nerdection

From the Author

For reasons that remain unclear, long ago I was chosen by a consortium of fairies and goblins to act as their scribe. They tasked it upon me to record a series of events that shaped the future of Fairykind for generations. These events occurred in the late 9th century A.D. on and around the Isle of the Fairy Realms northwest of Great Britain.

At the time of this writing, the isle's location remains a point of contention. No map marks the exact spot. According to legend, the only way to find the isle is to get lost in a northern storm. Several expeditions have been carried out in recent times, but the isle has yet to be found. All the more maddening is that it even eludes the eyes of cameras in the sky.

Some say the isle is but a myth. I am, of course, biased by my personal interactions with those who claim it exists, but I do believe the isle is real. Perhaps one day I'll know for sure. The fairies have promised to take me there once my telling of their tale is complete. Until that day, I'll continue to chronicle the story of Fairykind as described to me by fairies and goblins themselves.

It should be known that since I published book one of this series, acquiring more source material from the consortium has been a difficult matter. There are creatures who wish this tale never to be told. Some have gone to great lengths to keep it buried in the shadows of history. But the fairies have been steadfast, never wavering in their insistence on making their story known to the human world. After years of secret meetings, coded messages, and perilous midnight encounters, I'm proud to continue the tale I began in my novel Eleganta. What you are about to read is my translation of the troubling events involving a fae named Violetta. With great joy, I present to you book two of what the fairies call 'The Tale That Must Be Told.'

Denny R. Swartzlander is the author of the Eleganta fantasy series. He has a doctorate degree in Molecular Biology, and when not writing, he works as a mad scientist at the University of Kansas. Although he is technically the author of this series, he thinks of himself as a kind of ghost writer. This is because fairies and goblins are telling the story to him as he writes it. The tale has been passed down through many generations of both species (resulting in often differing versions from the two), and he is merely attempting to record the said events in a balanced manner. The Eleganta series is a true story, in so much as the words of fairies and goblins can be believed. Why they chose him to record their story, he doesn't know, but he finds himself with fairies on his right, and goblins on his left, both eager to see their tale in print. So what choice does he have? He will write it, and he hopes many will read it, for the subjects of its plot are far too often forgotten or pushed aside as mere fantasy. The Eleganta series is their story, from their own mouths, through Dr. Swartzlander's pen, to you.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, but I thought "Violetta - a Fae in the House of Fairies" was even more exciting. Just when I thought I knew what to expect from Violetta, she would throw me. The characters from the first book are all here, and they continue to grow and change as their adventures take unexpected turns - sometimes funny, more often downright scary. Secrets from the past and unexpected choices in the present continued to surprise me, all the way through.
I'm excited to see what happens in the next (and final?) book of this series.

Excellent and exciting read! The story is captivating and the fantasy world created by the author is fascinating and imaginative! I enjoyed this sequel to "Eleganta" and eagerly look forward to the next book where the adventures will continue.
