It’s okay to be different!

Mac is a unique kid, and he is ready to make new friends! But when he tries to play with the other kids, they are rude and tease him. Mac is devastated until he finds a new friend that is a little different too. He learns that he doesn’t need to change who he is to play with someone new. Mac and his new friend, Cheez, decide to play their own game and invite all the other “different” kids to play with them too.

Mac and Cheez is a story about real kids with real problems. This vibrant tale is about accepting the things about ourselves that are different. Mac and Cheez learn that they can choose to “be the change” and show kindness to those around them.

This story teaches the importance of inclusion, acceptance, and finding confidence within yourself.
Written for children of every ability, color, race, size, and shape, Mac and Cheez is the perfect gift for parents and grandparents of special kids everywhere. Everyone is a little different. That is what makes us great!

Don’t worry about the tune. Just sing your own true song.

I am a mom to an extraordinary kid named Mac who inspired this book. I live in Atlanta with Mac and our Yorkie Poo named Charile. I love to encourage kids who may feel a little different. My Mac and Cheez series will be about real kids, (Mac and Cheez), with real problems. They will explore difference, adoption, struggling with ADHD and racial profiling. This series will be a wonderful resource for moms, teachers and day care providers. I want kids to have the courage to cope and navigate real life challenges with love and support. I am a native New Yorker, an entrerpeneur and a leader in my community. I also love to microwave my icecream and put sugar on my grits. I guess I am a little different too!

I purchased two books as gifts for a local after school program. The book cover was very attractive so I sat down and read it. I enjoyed the story and I loved the characters and the moral to the story. The book was very well illustrated, as well. After the quick read, I’ve decided to purchase the book as Christmas gifts for my grand children and their friends. Kudos to Christal M Cherry and L. Medina for such an inspirational book in such a time as this!

Mac and Cheez is a relatable and endearing story with an important message about kindness and embracing differences. As I read it to my four year old grandson, he continually asked, “why?”
Why indeed, Hudson.

Great story about a kid who is not accepted due to racism, and then finds a friend who accepts him. This book would be great for classrooms or a family conversation about difference, acceptance and celebrating the uniqueness of each person.

This book is such a cute story of diversity and inclusion. Great for kids probably in the 3-7 age range. A good way to talk to your kids about treating everyone fairly and that being different is ok!

I purchased this book for my 10 & 8 year olds. Very thought provoking and easily digestible for their age group. Will buy additional copies as gifts and for our work library.

I read this book with my 7-year-old daughter, and she was sucked in immediately. To watch her go through the grief of not being accepted alongside Mac then celebrate when a friend who looked different than him connected was heartening. But the real magic of this book comes at the end if you take the time to walk through the outlined questions about acceptance and belonging. I learned so much about my daughter's heart here! Special thanks to authors Christal and Mac Cherry for writing a book so full of love and inclusion that it was felt more than 1,000 miles from your doorstep. A must-read for parents working to build empathy in their children!
