Buried Beneath the Light (The Soul Bound Realms Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

We’re all just monsters wearing different skins.

Devastated by the monstrous attacks in Rioa, Eira, Nyx, and their soul-bonded friends scramble to heal the newly traumatized souls and discover the source of the attacks. The plague of darkness has unleashed new horrors on Majikaero, and the only way the shattered group of souls will find the answers they seek is if they can shine light on their darkest secrets and remove the masks they hide behind.

Meanwhile, on Earth, the last of Eira’s dearest friends fight for their lives as they navigate a post-apocalyptic nightmare. The remaining people of Earth have sheltered underground and formed new societies—some more corrupt and evil than others. After two years of horrific abuse in an underground cult, Astira and Liv escape and reunite with Jace. But the years of trauma have altered the very essence of these friends, and not all is as it seems in their new underground haven. Plagued by strange dreams and skeptical of the leadership in their city, Astira and Liv struggle to begin their healing journeys.

Buried Beneath the Light is book two in the Soul Bound Realms series, a thrilling fantasy romance that begs the question: how much healing can one soul sacrifice before they’re buried beneath the light?

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Carliann Jean has always loved reading, writing, and throwing herself into anything creative. Her path took a turn into the fields of education and social work, where she thrived in the classroom and as a school social worker. She has a passion for helping those impacted by trauma and mental health issues, and in general, she loves to build deep, healing connections. While Carliann adores her current work as a licensed clinical social worker in private practice, she wants to fuse her mental health specialization with one of her favorite things: fiction stories.

She currently writes fantasy romance that focuses on mental health, trauma, and darker themes. Her goal is multi-purposed. Carliann wants to continue aiding those who have experienced trauma and mental health issues through the art of storytelling. She also wants to bring readers the joy, laughter, tears, and many other feelings experienced from immersing yourself in a character’s life.

When Carliann is not writing, she thoroughly enjoys spending time with her husband and pet children, reading more books than she has room for, spending time outdoors, traveling and exploring, stress baking with music, and laughing with her loved ones. She’s an Illinois native who felt drawn to the West. If you can’t find her cuddled up with her feisty two cats and excitable pup, you’ll see her hiking in the mountains or at one of the local shops with a new treat and shaken espresso.

✨ Beautifully written sequel to a dark romantasy series✨
First off - This was SUCH an amazing continuation of the first book! It can be a challenge to pick up a sequel when there's massive time skips, but not this one! This sequel picks up right where we left off which is great because when I finished the first one I was like "wait no, I need to know what happens next now!"I loved that we got a further look into the inner workings of Majikaero AND we got to find out what's been going on back on Earth! Plus, all of the different pov's we got really helped give clarity on what was going on and with who, since there's a lot of characters and they aren't always together. When I first started reading the book I would be like "I wonder what so and so character is up to" and then we started getting the different pov's right away! Which I personally enjoy because it leaves little room for confusion of where someone is (which tends to happen more easily with high fantasy).I think one of my favorite parts of the series is the concept of the soul connections and almaoves! I'm glad we got more of that it this installment. Not only that but the dark nature of mental health was handled beautifully and really highlights the "humanity" in the characters - we all have light and dark, and have done good and bad things but that doesn't mean we aren't worthy of love and healing.I will say to double check the trigger warnings! I didn't have a problem with anything but there is some heavy stuff (that's handled gracefully) that you should be aware of!Great book series and I can't wait to read more of her work! ♥️

It was so good, with such great world building and great characters! The author is so kind, and the whole story is just written so well. The themes with mental health really speak out and show up, and Athena is just a gem of her own. The magic and the world are just so creatively well done!

Buried Beneath the Light by Carliann Jean is an emotional roller coaster of a book.there is a list of trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, so if you are someone who is easily affected by emotional trauma, just be careful. I don’t think I’ve seen the blending of mental health into a fantasy book so prominent before, but it was pulled off very well in this story.

Each chapter is told from a different character's perspective. Weaving together a story that is full of powerful earthly and spiritual vibes. There is a lot of inner turmoil with these characters, we enter the story after a horrific event at the night festival, where bodies are torn and mental stability is shattered to total pieces . The healers in this world mend not only physical wounds but also spiritual ones.

The story spans both the earthly realm and an alternate magical realm, both are under very heavy duress. This is a story of healing, This is a story of healing both physically and mentally. With each character trying to find their own path to recovery though some seem to resist.

At times, I felt uncomfortable, but then there were some light-hearted moments that took me by surprise. My favorite character was the very large cat, Zaya. I think I would really like to see a story with her as the main character. I believe she has a lot to say.

I did enjoy this book. I do have to say that this is book 2 in a series, and I came in on the middle of the story, so I had to do some catching up as I was reading. It is possible to read this book without the first but I suggest you read The Light Within first to know the whole story.

Coming as no surprise to readers of The Light Within, Bured Beneath the Light brings the reader into a magical realm full of friendship, mystery, romance, and action. The scope of the story gets bigger, new points of view are added, and the plot really ramps up in the second book. Highly recommended - I really enjoyed getting deeper into the world and characters. The story really hits a stride and you won't want to out it down!

So I read the first book when it came out, and while that one I struggled to read at first I couldn’t put it down eventually. Now this new addition to the series literally made me cry at points. This book series calls to my soul, and is helping me to heal in ways I never knew a book could. There’s some spiciness, but there’s also deep feelings and emotions rooted in this book. I read it in two days. I laughed at parts and I cried at parts. I feel like I’m trying to figure out this world with the characters. I felt like I was being buried under the overwhelming emotions that they feel at times. This author has created a series that is making me foam at the mouth waiting for the next installment and I cannot wait to read more of the world that she is creating. If you want to read a book with spiciness, actual emotions, and a storyline that keeps you guessing what happens next then this is the book for you.

I loved this book and highly enjoyed every aspect of it but the underlying message that came with it was my favorite 🥹🙌🖤 The author's displays a beautiful and very impactful message regarding mental health and how it's never a bad thing to ask for help when you truly need it.

The characters were just as amazing as in the first story, and the world building just keeps getting better and better. This was such a fantastic book overall 🙌🖤
