Trample on the dust of the Dead lightly...This sentiment, held by old-time Hoodoos and traditional Rootworkers, is a subtle reminder of the importance of observing certain behaviors while in a graveyard. Knock before entering. Be careful where you walk. Don’t step on graves or sit on tombstones. Always ask before taking anything—even stones, flowers, sticks and leaves. Never leave trash, always greet the gatekeeper and always come prepared with a pocket full of pennies, silver dimes and a bottle of rum or whiskey. The important thing to remember is that you never just walk in and take something. You must always treat the spirits with respect; both the spirits of the deceased, as well as the guardians of the cemeteries and the psychopomps. Workin’ in da Boneyard is a primer for conjurers seeking a tangible connection to their past, their ancestors and the Spirit World by working with graveyards and graveyard dirt. From practical issues of safety, choosing a cemetery, locating ancestral graves, reading gravestone signs and symbols, avoiding haints and hauntings, to gathering graveyard dirt and making goofer dust, Workin’ in da Boneyard has the information needed for working effective graveyard conjure, as well as words of caution for the ill-prepared.

Denise Alvarado does it again! Her research, information, and advice our working in the graveyard is solid. She discusses the importance of why you need to show reverence and respect while in the “boneyard”. She also covers why you need to be very careful when doing this work and that it isn’t for everyone. There are dangers that come with working in the boneyard and she discusses them in detail throughout. Denise references and lists citations, a huge plus as it gives you even more places to look for further research and verifies the authenticity and scholarship of her findings. Also explained is the difference between graveyard dust and graveyard dirt, the times and places it can be collected, and what you need to perform the correct collection of those items. Spells are included in detail. From the proper way of entering the cemetery, getting to know who is in it, where you can and shouldn’t work to leaving the graveyard, she covers it all! A throughly enjoyable and knowledgeable read. Bravo!!!

Got my copy of Workin' in da Boneyard this week. Great source of history and protocol for spirit work. This collaboration by Denise Alvarado (Hoodoo Almanac 2012) and Madrina Angelique (writer and initiate of many spiritual traditions) is a wonderful primer for those in search of that wisdom and knowledge held by previous generations that through the filter of modern culture may have only trickled through the cracks to present as superstition. Connecting with our ancestors and the dead makes us respect life more and makes us respect the journey of where we are from and where we are going. This little book provides rules and restrictions for respecting and recruiting those who have passed to improve our lives and the lives around us. Whether you are a hoodoo practitioner, a writer researching the subject or just curious about growing a relationship with your dearly departed, this book is a great place to start.

Great source of information on proper protocall so ghosts don't fallow you home, and on leaveing offerings for the dead.
One thing I really like is a love spell for drawing a lover if you don't have anyone specificin mind. A lot of love spells are how to manipulate a target There aren't enough draw someone new to love spells out there.
There ere a ton of other spells in this book that are positive not hexing or death spells.

For those who study Hoodoo practices, this book is a must to have on one's shelf, it has the information that you need for this advance type of working.

If you are only a beginner, read this book, but don't attempt doing it until you are proficient in your work.
