This is a great book on elk hunting! The book has nuggets of information on almost every page. I enjoyed the author’s humor and writing style. The book is well structured and flows from one chapter to the next. It contains advice on how to scout from home, physical scouting and what to do when hunting. Each chapter has a summary so you can quickly get a refresher before hunting season. I really liked his ideas on documentation. I have started documenting my hunts and can now track when and where I saw elk activity. The book has seven chapters.
    1 Preparation for scouting
    2 Effective scouting
3 Preparing hunting sites and set up
    4 The waiting game
    5 Sealing the deal
    6 Documentation
    7 Short Stories
Tree stand hunting, with proper preparation, is the most effective way to hunt elk.

It had good stories and good insight. 4/5 stars just because I felt that it didn’t have a lot of information that I didn’t already know/understand. Good work overall, I would read it again!

Being a sister to the author gives me certain rights to be prejudice. I am a non-hunter: however, after reading this book, I believe I could put together a hunting plan which would give me the best chance of getting my elk from a tree stand. The author leads you through, step by step: from beginning in the off-season checking for possible hunt locations on the computer, to pre-hunt activities of physically scouting out those possible locations, reading signs of recent elk activity, setting up the tree stand, to finally during the hunting season sitting in your tree stand on the alert for elk. He has an incredible rate of 90+% bagging his elk. I am very lucky to have some of this year’s elk sitting in my freezer to enjoy this winter.

Lots of good information and stories. The author makes a great case for hunting elk in tree stands and provides the knowledge of how to become good at it. I have purchased the book for all of my hunting partners as we have transitioned into hunting elk out of tree stands. The information provided in this book has helped us tremendously.

Really basic hunting info that could have been written in a couple pages. He basically says: find a spot where you think elk sometimes pass through, then sit there until elk pass by…he does not recommend decoys, or calling…just sit there long enough (weeks even) then shoot the elk if/ when it comes by.
