Veronica Ruiz Breaks the Bank: A Short Story Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 1,108 ratings

From New York Times best-selling author Elle Cosimano, comes Veronica Ruiz Breaks the Bank—a hilarious short story diving into Finlay Donovan's partner-in-crime Vero's past.

Anyone can spot a window of opportunity, but not everyone can manage to fall straight through one.

Veronica Ruiz is on the run for the first time in her life
though certainly not the last. After being falsely accused of stealing money from her college sorority, she packs up and heads to her cousin Ramón's apartment, planning to change her name and rebuild start over away from backstabbing girls and university drama (and far, far away from her arrest warrant in Maryland).

At the local bank on the first morning of her new life, it occurs to Vero that she'd be a better bank teller than most of the current employees: she may not have much money, but what little she does have, she knows how to manage. Unfortunately, the only available position is a cleaning job and so, desperate for a fresh start, she takes the bank manager’s offer.

But nothing in Vero's world has ever been simple, so of course shortly after she begins work, she overhears a conversation between her new boss and a security guard: someone who works there has been stealing. Seeing a window of opportunity, Vero sets out to find the identity of the thief, present the evidence, and then push for the perfect job. All of which would be easier if her irresistibly infuriating childhood crush Javi wasn’t living in the same damn town.

Offering the insight that listeners have been craving into fan-favorite Vero's past and a closer look at the moment Finlay and Vero first meet, Veronica Ruiz Breaks the Bank is a can't-miss addition to the Finlay Donovan series.

Veronica Ruiz Breaks the Bank Review
“So that’s how he wanted to play it. No sneaking around together… no swapping secrets, because that’s not who they were anymore.”As a huge fan of the Finlay Donovan series, I couldn’t wait to listen to Vero’s story. After being framed by a sorority sister for stealing money, Vero drops out of college and leaves in the middle of the night. She takes a job at a bank as a janitor and overhears the manager say someone is stealing money. With the hopes of getting promoted to a teller, Vero makes it her mission to solve the mystery of the missing money.I generally don’t love mini books/novellas… whatever you want to call them. This one is no different. Though I love Elle’s writing and don’t regret listening, it didn’t give me the same satisfaction as the full book in the Finlay series. Don’t get me wrong. There were some typical hilarious Vero moments.I don’t recommend you read this until you read at least 2 Finlay books, because you won’t appreciate Vero’s character as much. She is an absolute jewel.🖤Genre: Mystery/Contemporary Fiction❣️Steamy rating: None🤬 Profanity: Moderate🎧Method: Audiobook🎧 Narrated by: Stacy Gonzalez

3.5 Stars: This was a cute and quick read, a fun glimpse into the backstory of Vero, Finlay’s “sidekick” in the main storyline. Nothing overly exciting by nice for the character development of the stories.

The Finlay Donovan Series Book 3.5

In this delightful, bite-sized story we follow the beloved and mischievous character, Veronica “Vero” Ruiz, from the popular Finlay Donovan series. With her cunning ways and audacious personality, Vero certainly leaves a lasting impression.

In this installment, we witness Vero's ingenious scheme to uncover the mystery of missing funds at a bank she desperately wants to work for. After fleeing her school and assuming a new identity, Vero cleverly takes on the role of a custodian, using it as a cover to carry out her investigation discreetly. Her plan seems foolproof, until her ex-boyfriend, Javi, unexpectedly enters the picture.

✨Thoughts✨
The way Vero seizes opportunities is both hilarious and charming. It flawlessly captures the chaos that follows her wherever she goes. I was thoroughly engrossed in Vero's escapades, as they provided just the right mix of excitement.

As the Finlay Donovan series progresses, we are gradually given puzzle pieces that shed light on Vero's motives and her relationship with Javi. It's a fascinating exploration that keeps readers eagerly turning the pages, craving for more!

Elle Casimano's world is simply a delight to behold. I, for one, cannot wait to see what lies ahead in this thrilling series!

This was a good little backstory for Vero but it still leaves a lot unsaid… hoping more ends are resolved in Roll the Dice!

If you love the Finlay Donovan series, then you will enjoy this short story. It’s Vero’s backstory! Just like Finlay, she was on the run!

Vero was just about to graduate college when she was accused of stealing money from her sorority. She flees to her cousin’s, Ramon’s house, to start over. She gets a job at a bank, first as a janitor, then becomes a teller. She gets tangled up in trying to help the bank figure out who is stealing money. When her job at the bank is falling apart, she meets Finlay! A fun, fast-paced short story that gives you insight into Vero!! And so the adventures begin…

This is a short in between book in the Finlay Donovan series. It gives us the background on Vero’s life of crime. She has a knack for stumbling onto clues and is determined to start her new Leif as a bank teller. Unfortunately the only opening is as a custodian. But she overhears that there has been cash going missing. She is sure she can catch the thief. And she does….eventually. In the meantime she has to stay away from school and not let her family know why she quit. She also meets Finlay Donovan so we know how their story begins. This was a very fast paced read with danger and humor.

The audiobook is narrated by Stacy Gonzalez. She does an excellent job bring each character to life.

Timeline was wrong in one space, but it was really good to learn more of Vero’s back story. I’d really like for them to solve her mystery and clear her name. Thanks for writing it!
