Savant (Luminether Book 1) Kindle Edition
A fascinating, action-packed journey through a mythical land of pure fantasy adventure—where the last demigods are being hunted to extinction—in the tradition of stories like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and the heroes of The Chronicles of Narnia, get ready to meet Milo Banks…
Milo Banks hates high school. Having skipped a grade against his will, he becomes the smallest freshman and a target for sinister bullies. But when his dad accidentally reveals hidden superpowers, Milo learns the truth about his family’s amazing heritage—and the danger they are all in.
A war-torn fantasy world of myth and magic, known as Astros, Land of the Gods, exists alongside our own—and Milo and his twin sister Emma were born there. But being demigods isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. Powerful, dark enemies have been hunting their family for decades, intent on harvesting the magic infusing their royal blood.
Those enemies just showed up on their doorstep. Suddenly on the run from shapeshifting assassins, Milo and Emma Banks will be whisked away to their ancestral homeland without the protection of their parents. In the Land of the Gods, they must seek refuge in an orphanage full of gifted kids with bad attitudes who don’t trust the Banks twins at all.
But Milo and Emma can’t do this alone. They need allies. Only by rebuilding the vanquished army their parents recruited long ago can they hope to defeat a necromancer king on the cusp of attaining ultimate power—by resurrecting the God of Destruction himself.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2017This is a one of its kind, enthralling book that combines intelligence at the genius level with inexplicable events that stir up the curiosity of the reader to the level that it gets to be impossible to put down the book till the end. The once normal life of Max, Allie and their twin children Milo and Emma is turned topsy-turvy one unexpected day when they are forced to leave the only home that the children have ever known to parts and worlds unknown after a brief explanation of who the parents actually are! It is a big devastation when the children are left to fend for themselves after a traumatic separation from both their parents! Following the instruction of their father, Milo uses the beacon crystal to summon a friend who takes them to safety in another world. How the children overcome their own grief, make new friends, realize and acquire their special skills and potential powers forms the content of this fabulous story.
It is extremely well written, easy to follow with well etched characters that soon grow close to the readers. The supernatural part is very absorbing, keeps the interest kindled and makes reading this book a pure pleasure. One has to read the book to understand what I am saying!!
A truly unique book and I am going to look for the sequels of this book. Thank you Mr. Denoncourt!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2019I purchased this book because I won the second book in the series in a Goodreads Giveaway. This is a teen/young adult coming of age fantasy story that is well written and has great world building. It is action-packed after a somewhat slow beginning, but some things bugged me such as not containing your downed enemy.
The main character showed some growth, but still has a way to go and there are some cliché storylines in the book. However, it is still an entertaining read and there are a lot of possible directions that future books could go. So....we have magicians, sorcerers, a type of shapeshifter, acolytes, strong fighters, winged flying animals, developing abilities, new friends, evil versus good, family relationships, and so much more. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2015This book kept me enthralled the whole time I was reading. For a fantasy or out of the realm of this world it captures the imagination and takes the reader into itself. I had a very hard time putting it down so I could sleep. The idea that there is other worlds of which we are unaware of let's the reader believe of a place we might come from instead of where we are. To think we could have special powers that we know nothing about makes the reader want to become something special. I will recommend this book to anyone who has imagination and then some. I personally can't wait to read the next book, if for no other reason than to find out how these children of demigod s and humankind handle what comes next. A 5 star book. Thank you so much for the fantasy.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2015Ok so this had some issues in it witch are hard to ignore first off the beginning of this felt really slow I'm mean really slow I get the author was trying set up the plot points but at times this felt really stiff especially the sisters character in the beginning she just felt one dimensional through the first few chapters also introducing the side characters just felt a little like a flop as well the personalities don't get as fleshed out as I think they could have been but for side characters they were all right I could probably go on but I just have one more thing I felt was done poorly and that was ok wait spoilers here if you don't want the book ruined STOP here and don't read anymore ok so the way the mother died was just dumb I mean really dumb this is a person who has been in thousands of battles and lived tens of thousands of years you would think she wouldn't turn her back on an enemy like that. Any way two last things one most of the villains in this felt flat like cardboard cutouts the only real time I felt hate was when the killed the flying horse. The other was the lack of geographical understanding I mean this world is supposed to be a mirror of earth just with like a massive empire in the middle controling most of the continents with several countries opposing them so where are these countries besides the republic we don't hear anything else about the other powers in this world. So yea if the author could at least provide a map that would be great anyway I've ranted enough I did for all its faults enjoy this read after it picks up and it does pick it's actually a fair read I gave it three stars because of all the aforementioned problems it has for a book that seems to be trying for a younger audience it fails badly if this were a movie it would have to be rated pg13 maybe even higher for all the graphic violence and sexual themes you find scattered through the book any way if you enjoy reading fantasy were the hero has to fight against a massive empire to right wrongs and you don't mind spending three bucks then I would say take a chance and try this out.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2013I don't do a lot of reviews, but I also don't usually find books of this quality being given away. Richard did a great job of building characters I want to get to know better. The plot was strong and I am excited to see what happens in the next one...MECHA!!! My only small complaint is that the world building could be a bit stronger. I understand where he was going, but more detail would have helped.
I would have paid $5 for this one and felt like I got my monies worth.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2015A great start to a coming of age story that has something for everyone. Twins, one boy and one girl, are brought to us by the author in a mix of action packed adventure, magic, other world beings that keeps you reading till you get done.
You get to know Milo and Emma as they learn about their world(s) magic, and mystery.
If you like coming of age stories and magic, then this is a must read for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars savant
This is a coming of age fantasy book. This book revolves around 15 year old twins Milo and Emma who are sent to the world of Astros after Milo sees his father use supernatural abilities and soon after Milo throws fire out of his own hands.
This book has everything a traditional fantasy book has
magic check
bad guy(s) check
secrets check
love intrests check
more twits and turns in this story than there is in a maze.
My imagination was able to run wild here with the descriptions of the people the races and places in this book.
This was an amazing book which I couldn't put down until I had finished as I did not want it to end.
Cant wait to read FERAL the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Young Adults start here
I will read almost anything, but this book targeted at teenage readers I think, was actually quite enjoyable for an oldie like me. It is a bit clichéd, the family from another world hiding their talents until disaster finds them and the whole thing takes off, but I like the young hero and his sister. I must have liked it, because I tried to find if Richard Denoncourt had written anything else.
