Do you ever feel that if life was just a little bit easier, it would be a hundred times better? In this faith-filled, open-hearted memoir, author Wendy Zahorjanski proves that the opposite is true. When we go through difficult times and trials in life, hard is only half the story. As Zahorjanski explores the journey into grief, doubt, and struggle, she admits that she was surprised to find joy, faith, and friendship on the other side.

In a culture that both intrigued and confronted all of her expectations, Zahorjanski was forced to embrace imperfection, look past seeming dichotomies, and be willing to let her well-laid plans for her life look as if they had turned to mush.

Take a walk into the woods with this raw, real account of one Christian missionary’s hike into the unknown where you’ll learn how to:

-Embrace vulnerability to find some of the most precious moments in life.

-Experience that even when things are far from perfect, God still is.

-Laugh at the failures and absurdities that happen with authentic joy.

-Honestly look at your past and present hours of grief and embrace the person they’ve helped you become.

-Take a look at who God is making you into, one persistent action at a time.

This book is an invitation to step beyond the veil of fear to enrich your existence with the rawness of life by looking to God: the bringer of life and healer of sorrows.

Are you ready to embrace the hard moments in your life so that you can finally see what the other half of hard can really bring? It’s time to lean into the transformation that awaits you. Grab your copy of Hard Is Only Half the Story: Real Adventures From My Journey Into the Unknown today.

Wendy Zahorjanski is a nonfiction writer whose life has been an incredible journey guided by faith. After originally coming from a small-town, she heeded the divine call that led her to traverse continents and cultures. Venturing down unfamiliar paths in foreign lands, Wendy's life has been an extraordinary adventure—a blend of laughter, tears, resilience, and moments of doubt. Through the lens of her own experiences—relocating to a foreign land, learning a new language, embracing motherhood, forging connections, navigating through pain's shadows, and much more—Wendy’s writing goal is to unveil the amazing moments of opportunity and spiritual growth concealed within seemingly insurmountable moments. She resides in Kragujevac, Serbia with her husband, son, and large boxer named Sven.

The author shares her travels through many overseas adventures and her struggle to learn a new language, start a family, and nurture new connections.
This fast-paced book is well-written, engaging, and easy-to-read—and the personal examples from lived experiences of a stranger in a strange land are intriguing. I appreciate the twists and turns, the descriptive scenery, and the author’s humor and wittiness.

Hard Is Only Half the Story by Wendy Zahorjanski is a memoir about her life. She undertakes a religious and self-discovery journey to the faraway land of Bishkek, the Capital of Kyrgyzstan, to discover herself and learn about their culture. Wendy is deeply religious, and her faith helps her through difficult times and joy-filled moments.
This book explores friendship, humor, understanding, hardship, religion, and love. It is beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written, but there is a problem. It was scanned in. While this media transfer was high resolution, the result is a fixed format. This made it challenging to center/fit on an electronic reader and let down the text/graphics quality. Plus, readers cannot search the document.
Hard Is Only Half the Story is worth five stars, but I am giving it four because it was scanned. I do recommend reading it, but for $2.99, I would have expected a higher-quality transfer.

Wendy brought readers into her life through stories shared and lessons learned while living overseas. Her stories provide encouragement for readers, as well as provoke thought and challenge readers to grow. Wendy points to Christ and the many different roles He has played in her life journey. The book evokes feelings of both joy and sadness. You will definitely laugh and maybe even cry as you read Wendy’s stories about entering in. I definitely recommend, especially if you are living overseas.

Actually, central Asia to be specific. Know anyone that lives in Bishkek? I bet you don't, and I don't know anything about the country either. So I enjoyed this memoir for the dive into an unfamiliar culture and territory, as I'm sure was part of her purpose for writing down her thoughts. When every day brings a new shock and wonder, it pays to document them. Amusing as heck.

This is written to share Wendy’s story, how she got overseas and what the Lord did within her heart. It was enjoyable to read.

Wendy Zahorjanski's memoir is a heartfelt exploration of pain meeting unexpected joy. Navigating through her grief and struggles, I found a surprising, comforting ally on every page. The emotional journey was deeply moving, illuminating the unanticipated beauty hidden in life's challenging times. This book tenderly unveiled the transformative power of embracing every moment, no matter how difficult.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book

This is a properly produced book: well-edited, formatted, and beautifully illustrated. It tells a tale of culture shock experienced by a person sufficiently unlike me to make it interesting. I have changed countries and continents so many times, I barely notice now and have forgotten what it was like to do it for the first time, but as I read this book I remembered my old fear, worry, doubt, hesitation, and bewilderment. It's a good, fun story in part because the country it describes is also unusual--this is not another "Bali changed my life" story. You have never heard of Bishkek. Here is your chance to.
The lessons the author interprets as lessons from Jesus are really just life lessons, whether you believe in god or are a total atheist they do illustrate the process of growing up through challenge and adversity.
