Step-By-Step Arabic Language: Beginner and Intermediate Learning
Purchase options and add-ons
Through a step-by-step approach, Nisreen Beshqoy has created a comprehensive and complete Arabic language learning system within this textbook that includes all of the essential grammar rules and sentence construction. The lessons are designed to build a strong foundation for the student to build upon from the beginner to intermediate levels.
Nisreen holds a Law Degree from the University of Jordan and has received high honors in the Arabic language from Jordan's Ministry of Education. During Nisreen’s years of experience teaching Arabic language to college students in the United States, she found many deficiencies within the conventional teaching system and the college textbooks that are being used. Therefore, she wanted to create a new system of teaching the language by utilizing its natural built-in rhyming system, from the language's origin of the three letter root. Every word has a root that has three letters, which is the core of the word, and to that core, we can add special letters that create many words--- and families of words.
In Step-By-Step Arabic Language, Nisreen has created a completely new methodology for teaching Arabic, by teaching through the rhyming patterns that is naturally inherit to the Arabic language. This textbook is intended to be a learning resource that can be used in colleges and universities, or at-home for the independent learners.

About the author

Nisreen Neqresh Beshqoy is an Arabic language teacher and author of the textbook "Step-By-Step Arabic Language". With many years of experience teaching Arabic to college students in the US, she has taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of Arabic language and culture. Nisreen graduated from the University of Jordan with a degree in Law and received an honorary achievement award from the Ministry of Education in Jordan for having the highest exam score in the Arabic language in the country. During her time teaching Arabic to college students, Nisreen has developed her own unique method of teaching the language with a step-by-step approach that simplifies the learning process. Her approach focuses on independent learning and teaches students the rhythmic patterns inherent within the language. Nisreen aims to bridge the gap between beginner and intermediate levels, which she observed was missing in previous Arabic language textbooks.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2025Good tool to familiarize yourself with the language.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023This is a great book for beginners and intermediate Arabic learners. I love that it has a very clear method to easily learn reading, writing, and speaking, including pronounciation. This is definitely my favorite book to learn the Arabic language.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2024This book is overpriced for what is given. It’s okay for beginners and starts from the basics of the alphabet. It explains various concepts of grammar, but it doesn’t cover the forms of Arabic verbs. Maybe it’s hidden somewhere amongst the many tables that give too many examples, but it’s not clear what the verb forms are just from browsing through the book. There are also no exercises to help practice what it’s teaching. It’s more like I’m reading a book about Arabic instead of learning it. I wish I could return it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as a grammar reference but not for beginners
A great book to consolidate earlier learning - I’ve learnt a lot re grammar and written Arabic in just a couple of days. Love the clarity around the differences between Classical and MSA. Very helpful in how it is visually presented. Much more accessible than other books I’ve used.
But not really for beginners or for those wishing to learn to speak Arabic - more useful for reading Arabic. Vocab isn’t presented in any context except in relation to grammar and there are no exercises to consolidate earlier learning. Feels most like a grammar reference book to sit alongside other learning tools.
Great for what it does - but rather expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect tool for learning!
Very pedagogical. Explains in an easy way the difficulties I met whilst trying to learn Arabic by myself. Also explains the fonetics and the writing. Amazing book! The author have very well understood how to teach Arabic to non Arabic speakers. I recommend this book.
