The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, and Miracles Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 out of 5 stars 9,289 ratings

Learn how your thoughts hold the power to transform your life from the cells up.

It has been more than 15 years since the publication of The Biology of Belief, Dr. Bruce H. Lipton’s seminal book that changed the way we think about our lives, our health, and our planet. During that time, research in the field of epigenetics has grown exponentially, and Dr. Lipton’s groundbreaking experiments have been reinforced by more than a decade of rigorous scientific study.

Now, this unabridged audio of the book explores Dr. Lipton’s experiments and those of other leading-edge scientists who have unraveled the profound connections between the mind, body, and spirit.

It is now widely recognized that genes and DNA do not control our biology. Instead, they are controlled by signals from outside the cell, including energetic messages emanating from our thoughts. This profoundly hopeful synthesis of the latest and best research in cell biology and quantum physics puts the power to create a healthy, joyous life back in our own hands.

Through simple language, humor, and real-life examples, you’ll discover how epigenetics is revolutionizing our understanding of the link between mind and matter. When we transform our conscious and subconscious thoughts, Dr. Lipton teaches, we transform our lives - and in the process, we help humanity evolve to a new level of understanding and peace.

I was particularly careful in choosing the words for the title. Writing "it changed my life" might have been something people would have regarded as another review from a guy looking for a direction in life.
While we all may be looking for the right direction, one way or the other, there are books that deliver way beyond the expectations you developed after reading the first few pages.
After reading Dispenza's "Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself," which largely mentions this book, I felt almost an obligation to buy it. And when I started reading it I thought: "Oh geez, so slow, almost boring, things I have heard many times, here's another waste of time and money."
    Oh my, was I wrong.
    So totally wrong!
Bruce Lipton has the absolute capacity to really intrigue you while telling a story or explaining a concept that makes total sense, is scientifically accurate and more. The moment we read about his epiphany, it's like being there, with this still young professor, half a world away, struck by the light!
But you may be tricked by this review. You may read it like I am saying I like the way this man writes.
Which is also true, I do.
But the treasure of this book is what it says.
It is the ultimate message that focusing your attention on details is absolutely horrifying if it makes you lose the big picture.
Explaining we should stop blaming (and cursing) our genes for what we are. And don't even think about surrendering and give up to our laziness is the final message.
A message you get after reading this book.
Because you need to read it all.
Because nowhere in this book you will read "stop blaming your genes and look at the big picture." The book is a journey into the big picture. A journey made out of solid science.
A book that will teach you how clever our body is. And how stubborn and stupid it can be if we let it run on autopilot.
It is an invitation to tapping into this vast potential, learn how to redirect our attention and our ultimate direction. An invitation to throw away the navigator in your mobile phone and look for the destination using an old style map.
Why should we use a map in the gps area?
Because whenever you set the destination, the gps will choose for you!
It may be useful for a road trip.
    But not for your life.
    Read this book.
Read it again, and again if you like.
    Dive into it.
    Absorb it.
It may be the single and most important thing that will change your perception of the world.
And, what's most important, of yourself. And the life you want.
I will always be grateful to Bruce Lipton for this.

With already well over 2000 Amazon reviews, what’s to add? Only this: that you can control your own physiology, and that there is a legitimate basis to question the current materialistic basis of modern biology. (And don’t let the “new-age” cover art put you off – this is a book based on REAL SCIENCE, and not on mysticism.)

This book is biological revisionism – i.e., rethinking how cells react to their environment (which you can actually control) versus merely reacting to materialistic electro-chemical influences beyond your control.

Revisionism is always controversial – from Copernicus to Einstein. For me, research into revisionist concepts always proceeds from unanswered questions – be it history, biology, or whatever is being considered. In the current instance (biology) my fundamental unanswered question (mirrored by the author at page 38) is, “how can a mere 25,000 genes (in the human genome) code all of the 120,000 different types of cells in the human body?” Seems like you’d need a separate gene for each cell type – otherwise how could one gene know which type of cell it was to develop into from among the 6 (average) different possible variants? The author attempts to answer this question by providing for the effect of environmental conditions on the development of cells.

As for the book itself, it is an easy read (for a non-bio major) with easy to grasp metaphors. The only let-down was the pitch for “PSYCH-K” as the go-to method for accessing this new-found power of the mind. Perhaps the author is unable to tell us “how to do it” because no one yet knows – as stated by Dr. David S. Moore in “The Developing Genome – An Introduction to Behavioral Epigenetics” (2017) at pg. 189, “But today, we remain very far from being able to apply information about epigenetics in a practical way.”

Suggested supplemental reads to accompany this book include: (i) “Return to Life” (Jim Tucker – read this one first); and (ii) “Morphic Resonance” (Rupert Sheldrake – read this one last). By then you will have discovered the rabbit hole – i.e. “how could all of this biological development proceeded in the absence of some intangible “field”? (“Return to Life” opens the door to unexplainable things in general – puts you in a frame of mind to find these intangible, but influential, “fields” at least plausible.)

This book was long overdue! The debate about the virtues (or otherwise) of traditional medicine will no doubt go on for decades, fueled by the refusal of Big Pharma to see their cash cows disappear! But Dr. Lipton provides an original approach, with some telling arguments, which are in my view difficult to refute. This is a plea to take more seriously the role of energy in the healing process, hence the relevance of acupuncture, Ayurvedic, and other similar remedies., Dr. Deepak Chopra provides further ammunition in his book "Quantum Healing", and I am happy that this whole topic seems to be attracting more interest, and gathering momentum. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all, one day, use the power of our mind to heal many of our unhealthy conditions or ailments? Sunil

5.0 out of 5 stars Great undestanding on how beliefs do control behavior and gene activity

The book "The Biology of Belief" is one of the most important books that I read in my life, because I understood better how my body works at a cell level and the impact of the environment on cell behavior, since my birth and even my prenatal environment.

Although I cannot indeed control the environment altogether, I am able to steer my reactions or response to what happens in the environment and ultimately introduce new habits and mindset in order to be and remain healthy. In order words, I grasped the power of my identity upon the energy that drives my life.

Such awareness results from the book content clearly written with scientific arguments, facts, and data.

I thank the author very much for his contribution in sharing his knowledge and also expanding the original book for the 10th Anniversary Edition with additional and relevant information. Fantastic!

I was curious to read this book as I have a very strong interest in the impact of the mind on our health. We’ve all heard of the placebo effect and it seems there’s an increasing amount of information coming out in recent years about how the placebo effect effect works, or more accurately, the emerging, fascinating science of epigenetics.

The book lays out the story of how the prevailing theory of biology - the primacy of DNA - came about. The Central Dogma, as the author puts it. The author explains the history of various discoveries that led to this prevailing belief.

Lipton was a medical school professor and research scientist, and noticed in his lab work that the environment of the cell played a central role in the cell's development. This led ultimately to the discovery that it’s not DNA at all that controls our biology; rather, that factors external to the cell - the epigenetic - are what control the genes.

This gives us power to turn genes on or off, if we know how to harness the power correctly. We already know that foods can play a part in epigenetics. This book argues that energetic messages - such as those of our thoughts and beliefs - also play a part.

It’s well written, and accessible. As a professor at medical schools, and experienced presenter, Lipton has developed a way of explaining his theories in a way the layman can understand.
