    It's the year, 483 S.D. (Stellar Date) and as Jack says, "We have a planet to save." Full of non-stop action, with fast-paced dialogue and intricate relationships, Graham Fluster's "I Guess We're Heroes" is a tour de force for the Sci-Fi lover. Fluster creates a whole new world and then some. Hopefully this will be the first of many more. Believe me, when you get to know these characters and root for them as they set out to save the planets caught up in a future war, you will want more. And though the book has surprises galore, you won't be left guessing at the end -- They're heroes.

    Looking for your next Sci-Fi read? This is the book for you! I Guess We’re Heroes opens with a team of scientists (Alice, Ryota and Gideon) discovering a new alien life form named Red. A portion of the book follows their journey in learning about Red’s origins and skill set. Despite their initial intentions, outside influences (fame, greed, power, knowledge and political agendas) begin to distort their actions. Also included is another timeline that ties directly to the scientists’ discoveries. If you are not a fan of dual timelines - do not fret. The switches between time periods, people and places are easy to follow. A potential obstacle many readers face when dealing with the Sci-Fi/dystopian genre is the over abundance of new information, futuristic terms and inventions. Fluster does an excellent job allowing the reader to learn and follow along with these new developments without having to backtrack or take notes. As an avid thriller/suspense reader, I love obtaining bits of information that come together to form one cohesive image. The suspense builds steadily as individual decisions (driven by altered motives/influences) begin to unravel the temperamental nature of each group’s journey. A factor that emphasizes this is that the characters have genuine human responses to the situations they find themselves in. How each character responds emotionally/physically to the tension, stressors and moral dilemmas creates twists and turns I could not see coming. There were many occasions I found myself saying, “just one more chapter”, after I promised myself I’d put the book down. The thrill kept me at the edge of my seat until the very last page. I cannot wait to see what Fluster writes next!

    -Story is easy to follow
    -Successful suspense and plot twists
    -Filled with action and intrigue
    -Unique and enjoyable characters (I love Mei and Jack!)

    Went in completely blind, and was delighted with plenty of sci-fi tropes done in a very original way. For example, I loved the mechanics developed for this universe's FTL travel, which are not only cool but tied directly into the book's plot and backstory.

    The book's pacing returns to a plotline just as I was missing it and hoping to return. And every bit of exposition or change in setting sets up something later on, or helps you understand the mysteries going on during the book's primary story. So every group of characters makes meaningful strides towards the eventual conclusion; nothing feels like wasted time.

    This book reminded me of classic sci-fi novels I'd have found on my Dad's shelf. Looking forward to whatever the author is working on next, can't wait to see where the story goes.

    Take a deep breath before you start reading, because this story moves FAST! While jumping between two timelines, the author is able to keep a clear focus and maintain a high energy. You won't get lost and you won't want to put it down! While there are a lot of details that help to real ground the story in a gritty world, the details don't come at the expense of the flow. There are none of George Martin's length asides to describe elaborate meals or give detailed descriptions of fancy outfits. Don't worry about the food and the clothes - this book takes you straight to the action!

    Growing up with Fluster, he was always able to come up with wonderfully fantastic stories. This book is what I've come to expect from him and his special blend of creative chaos and more.
    While the story moves quickly, it's easy to follow and hard to get lost in the situation, but so easy to get lost in for a few hours of wonderful reading.
