I am fairly new to the New English Translation (NET) but I have come to appreciate it already and have been looking for a good study Bible based on it. The full notes edition is a good resource but does not lend itself to "normal" study. In researching options, I found the Abide Bible, and I decided to get a copy for myself. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite Bibles, although it is not exactly a study Bible.
The Abide Bible is a very different animal. It falls somewhere in the category of devotional Bible, but it's not even that. Instead, it is more of a Bible designed to spark spiritual growth through more thought provoking activity not dissimilar from small group study. It has a number of extras that are designed to engage the reader: journaling prompts, questions and comments for reflection, full color artwork for engaging the reader, and more. There is one or more of these helps on almost every page and addressing most chapters of each book.
The benefit of this type of approach to Bible reading and contemplation is that the extra helps are habit forming and can lead the reader into a deeper and more meaningful time of reading and study. I've found myself reading a little more carefully and spending more time thinking about the passages I read as a result. From that standpoint, this is an absolute win.
I have the brown leathersoft edition and I really, really like it. The pages are silver gilded, and the volume comes with two ribbon markers which is becoming more commonplace. The whole volume is very attractive. I also like the typefaces used - the text is very readable and comfortable.
Though I got this Bible for personal study it has become the volume I carry with me to church on Sundays. It's not exactly a study Bible but it is not a devotional Bible either. It is instead something different altogether, a Bible designed to establish a deeper understanding of Scripture and better reading/study habits.

A GREAT BIBLE FOR DEVOTION
First of all, I didn't know about NET Bible, until one day this year, I watched a YouTube review about the bible. Out of curiosity, I visited the website of Thomas Nelson and there I found THE ABIDE BIBLE, NET Translation. I watched and read several reviews until I was convinced to purchase a copy of it. I got the Brown Leathersoft edition.THE ABIDE BIBLE is an awesome Bible for those who not only read the Bible for the story but also devotion. This Bible makes you interact more with God through its five main features:1. Praying Scriptures - you will pattern and personalize your prayers after the biblical texts, thereby gaining language for the thoughts and emotions you want to express;2. Picture It - you will be asked to place yourself in a biblical narrative as a bystander or participant in important events in the Bible;3. I bought this Bible after using an NIV one for 15 years. I wanted to try a different translation. I also wanted something contemplative. My husband is a pastor and he basically collects Bibles. I wouldn't let him buy me one because he never picked one I liked. I found this one myself. He researched it and was very impressed.
I don't write in it. I like keeping it out for easy access and it looks nice on the table. It has a lot of useful pieces to it like the Bible reading plan. I enjoy the contemplative sections on the side margins. It helps me slow down and reflect more on what I read.
I have only had it a few months and am still finding out new features in it, but I don't solely use this Bible during my devotions, which is why I bought it. I stopped using the Bible plan daily and started using the contemplative margins more. I have never done well with Bible reading plans though as I tend to move around more and pair my reading with other books.
Overall, it's a beautiful Bible.
