4.7 out of 5 stars 11 ratings

Hannah is a seamstress living near Fort Kearny. She's content with her simple life, caring for her father and keeping to herself. But when Sam, a newly widowed father of three, shows up looking for help to make it to Oregon, Hannah's world is turned upside down.

Their sudden marriage is just for convenience - or so Hannah thinks. But as they travel the length of the Oregon Trail together, she starts to see Sam in a new light. He's kind, caring, and gentle with his children. And slowly but surely, Hannah starts to fall in love with him.

But what will happen when they reach Oregon? Will Hannah return home to her father and forget about Sam? Or will their journey lead them to a lifetime of happiness together?

Find out in 'A Journey of the Heart', a sweet, clean romance novella based in the 1800s along the Oregon Trail.

Shaley Nagle is an author, wife, and cat mom. She project manages by day and reads and writes voraciously by night. She's a rockhound, too--the kind that wanders the backroads of Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon for hours chasing the perfect sparkly or colorful piece of quartz, agate, or petrified wood. She is a speed-reader and her Kindle Oasis is constantly full of books she's only started reading. You can usually find her curled up in her most comfy reading chair with a cat or two on her lap while she writes historical fiction.

This book touched on some hard things in life, but truly an enjoyable story. It was light hearted as it told a tender story of a family heading West in traveling by wagon in a wagon train. The characters were believable. A sweet story. I've been reading historical books on the holocaust and needed an emotional break. Well done.

My only complaint about A Journey of the Heart by Shaley Nagle is that it should have been longer. The details Hannah’s life and of her wagon train journey after her marriage of convenience are interesting and have the ring of authenticity, as do the lives of the other characters. A longer story could have delved more deeply into the interactions between Hannah and Sam. This was an appetizer; a full length novel would be the meal. I received an ARC for my unbiased review.

Sam and his family are heading to Oregon by wagon train when his wife dies. Needing help he asks Hannah to enter a marriage of convenience. Sweet historical romance.

Hannah and Sam have a sweet story of finding love after loss along the Oregon trail. Sam loses his first wife in childbirth near where Hannah lives with her father. He asks Hannah for a marriage of convenience to help get his children to Oregon. There isn't any angst really and the only negative for me was wishing the story could be longer and that Sam would've discussed his feelings more. This is a nice little evening read.
