Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, Claire Bureau began her artistic exploration in 2002 by creating unique Christmas ornaments for family members. For more than 20 years, she learned to use different mediums, including acrylic, clay, metal and various textiles, mainly through the study of books and video lessons. This experimentation revived her interest in art and particularly in watercolour, which remains her main medium. Always curious, in 2022 she added printmaking to her production.
After a career as a computer science teacher, she has spent the past 20 years learning the intricacies of watercolour. Since 2023, she has started moving away from the realistic style to adopt a more abstract and stylized style. Her favourite artists include Andrew Wyeth, Alex Colville and John A. Grimshaw, mainly because of the way they use light and shadow.
Claire Bureau is a member of several local art groups with which she regularly exhibits. Since June 2023, her work has been available at the CAAZ Boutique Galerie d'Art in Coaticook, Quebec. She has received several awards in international shows and competitions, including the Light Space Time Art's "Patterns" competition in 2020, the Exhibizone 2020 Summer exhibition and Light Space Time Art's international "Primary Colors" competition in 2023.
Her works are in private collections in Canada and the United States. She has completed several commissions for Canadian and American clients. She lives and works in Ste-Catherine-de-Hatley, Quebec.
“100 Quick Sketching Ideas” is her first book, and she is currently working on a book on artistic composition.
