Growing up in a Hindu household, children are taught to view Bhagawath Gita with reverence but that can also become a barrier to assimilating what Gita has to offer. Swami Parthasarathy breaks those barriers by offering an in-depth explanation of the verses with clear logic. He further breaks down each chapter into smaller parts which makes it slightly easier for newbies to digest the content. The Vedanta cultural foundation also holds weekly lectures for those who are serious about understanding Gita and putting the teachings to practical use.

This is the best translation of the Gita that I've come across and I have many in my library. Each sloka's content has been thoroughly and lovingly explained. I'm an engineer so I appreciate the attention to detail and every nuance of all terms and references within each sloka or verse that he comments on and in a way that Western cultured seekers can readily process.

Thank God Arjuna and Krishna had this conversation in the middle of the battle else we would have missed this amazing text and this brilliant translation. Just like Arjuna’s collapse - we may be great actors in our field but in the face of a challenge we collapse i.e. get stressed, lose our equanimity, our peace of mind. We are physically wrecked, mentally shattered and intellectually paralyzed. The Gita is a manual for life - how to live life, how not to succumb and not be crushed by the weight of challenges.

The author Swami Parthasarathy in one of his speeches says “Here is a formula for living. Living is an art, a skill, a technique. Just because you have lived for 20, 30 or 40+ years doesn't mean you know how to live life. We need to learn the technique of living. Just like playing the violin or flying an aircraft is a technique, we need to learn and practice the skill and technique of living. Its is because we don’t know the art that we struggle and collapse.” This art of living is what the Gita is all about. And Swami Parthasarathy explains it in practical and clear terms.

This is only translation you’ll ever need. I have multiple translations and this is the only one I have read from end to end and now beginning my way through it again. The book has verses provided in sanskrit along with the transliteration and the translation. The most valuable aspect of the book is the verse by verse explanation which provides a clear, concise and understandable meaning and direction of the verse.

Every chapter has a summary of the topics which is unique to this translation. The summary provides a bird’s eye view of the chapter and the thought flow which helps in understanding and retaining Krishna’s message better.

There are definitely translations available for under 20$ but they will just gather dust on your bookshelf. If you are interested in studying the Gita seriously and understanding and implementing its teaching in your daily life - this is the translation you need.

If you want to live life in meaningful, prosperous manner, Bhagavad Gita is a must to read and learn from, irrespective of your religion or faith. For it talks of things way beyond these manmade discriminations, and treats us a humans, a form of life, nothing more, nothing less. This book by Swami Parthasarathy simplifies the complex learnings to a great extent, and keeps it objective.
