I was picturing this as a solution to two problems: 1. I could mount it on my camera 2. I could mount it on a tripod screw. I can't. It says "tripod screw" and "connect the bottom part of this tripod". I assumed there was a standard 1/4 20 tripod thread in the bottom. There isn't. Still, I am about to go buy the version of this that mounts to a tripod screw because I'm really impressed with the quality. SmartTree, how hard would it be to tap this thing with 1/4 20 threads?

Absolutely PERFECT for my needs.

I have all of the Nikon FX Pro bodies and primarily use the D5 and D4s. I needed a method for mounting a GoPro Hero6 on the hot shoe of my D5 so that I could be capturing video while shooting available light stills.

This inexpensive hot shoe adapter is already aligned facing forward and leaves only tilt adjustment for the user. Setting the GoPro H6 for Narrow view is enough to keep the 70-200mm zoom with shade well out of the video frame. If put on Wide View, you would see the shade.

I was concerned that the forward facing alignment may be off a little, bit it isn't. So it's a perfect solution for combining my still photography with simultaneous Video Capture without having to switch over to video, which has always been my method.

Small, well constructed, completely functional and inexpensive. Now that I know how well it works, I'll have one in every camera bag at the ready.

Fits the GoPro Hero 5 or 6 Black editions perfectly. I just leave it attached to the frame and it's ready to clip on and begin using.

Thank you Smatree, for such a simple on-camera solution for those who need to attach that GoPro to a DSLR of any size and manufacture so long as it has a hot-shoe on top.

The only drawback is that I can't use an on-camera strobe/speedlight because those are also on that hot-shoe. But I'm not complaining, it's exactly as I hoped it would be.

Get one, you won't be disappointed and I have no reservations at all about endorsing this adapter.

I purchased this mount so I could attach my GoPro style camera to the top of my camera. I wanted to get some beautiful video when I take pictures. Later upload to YouTube. The low price had me a little cautious because you always get what you pay for. So, I am happy to report that this mount is solid and a sound investment. It is indeed made of aluminum, but not weak and bendable aluminum, as one would expect from cheaper products. It is very sturdy and will hold whatever you place in it.

PRO:
1. Cheap, but not cheapy.
2. Solid and sturdy.
3. Universal.

CON:
1. It may chip or scratch over time, not solid black dyed metal.
2. Only comes in black.

OTHER:
BUY if you want a good reliable mount.
DON'T buy if you DON'T want a quality product.

I love how it is made of Aluminum over plastic, extremely durable and good for all weather. It works great with a Canon camera and also Gopro attachments. mostly using this attachment when photographing wildlife and wanting a bit of video when taking the photos. this can be used in a variety of ways, but I do suggest that you adjust the volume on a DSLR vs a Mirrorless camera because you will hear all the shutters in the video due to the Gopro being like 2 inches away from camera.

I don't use it on ever photography shoot, but it is so handy to keep in your camera bag.
