Review

"As a book production and publishing professional, as well as an author myself, I cannot sing enough praises for Author Stylist Guide. Being an author isn't only about writing; it's a business that requires marketing and presenting ourselves in various venues and on multiple outlets, and this unique book could not be a more valuable guide. With her extensive experience, and with a spirit of encouragement and support throughout, Jennifer gives indispensable advice and detailed checklists for everything from participating in events and trade shows, to being a featured speaker, to being a guest on podcasts, and more. This is truly the book all authors have needed and wished for! From beginning to end, she infuses confidence, provides relatable examples, and provokes thoughtful consideration of the range of opportunities authors may be offered or want to consider to reach their audiences. I'll definitely be recommending this book to all my author clients-and relish having it when I publish future books of my own."

-Stacey Aaronson, founder of The Book Doctor Is In and multiple-award-winning author of the memoir Raising, and Losing, My Remarkable Teenage Mother

"Jennifer Milius' Author Stylist Guide is a book that every author should buy whether they have published one book or many.

Before I read it, I naively thought I knew how to prepare for almost any event, but this guide gave me tips that I'd never thought of.

Ms. Milius is an expert at giving clear instructions on how to handle events and book signings among so many other subjects, she leaves no stone unturned. I'm so excited that I now have this bible to refer to the next time I have an event. It's a welcome guide for all authors."

-Leslie A. Rasmussen, award-winning author of The Stories We Cannot Tell

I loved how niche specific this book is. Many times authors forget that writing the book is the easy part, but selling the book is the hard part. Knowing how to be prepared to sell the book at events, craft fairs, when you go to conferences or give presentations is a whole other ball game. The Author Stylist Guide helps you step by step to think about how you're going to do this is a way that works for you and who you are.The tone of the book is kind, supportive, and encouraging. I recommend this book for any writer out there that wants to sell their books in person successfully and build good and strong connections with their readers.

This book is a MUST HAVE for anyone who is hoping to make it in the author business. Jennifer Milius gives the most practical, honest, tell-it-like-it-is advice as she is right there in the trenches and knows what she is talking about.

After publishing my first book, I patted myself on the back and said, “Good job. I did it!” Then I realized that only part of my work was done, and I needed to move to the next part, which was something I knew nothing about—marketing. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed. I just wanted to write. But writing alone doesn’t sell books unless you’re a famous author with a marketing team.

This is why Jen Milius’ book is so important. It takes authors, in detail, through the steps from launch day forward and through everything involved in selling books. And I do mean everything! Ranging from obtaining a business license to considering whether or not to incorporate, to managing inventory, to book signings and speaking engagements, and what to wear to events. There’s too much to mention here, but I think the author says it well when she calls her book a toolbox, and indeed it is. It’s a toolbox full of tools that authors can use over and over again.

Being an author is a hard business. There’s a lot of work involved. But as Ms. Milius stated, “The Author Stylist Guide was created out of love as my pep talk for you.” As an author, this book and this pep talk are much appreciated.
