Warrior of Eden: How Curiosity and Questions Lead to Understanding God’s Call for Women Hardcover – January 23, 2024
Purchase options and add-ons
In this transformative, biblically based book, Beth Guckenberger draws on God’s original intention for women to embolden us to use our gifts as full participants at church, at work, and at home. Warrior of Eden explores twenty-seven thought-provoking questions such as:
- What does “suitable helper” in Genesis 2 really mean?
- Are we made in the image of a male God?
- How did the early church treat women?
- When have I joined men in battle, and when have I picked one instead?
- Why is the church lagging in this conversation instead of leading?
With reflection questions and journal prompts, Warrior of Eden reminds us that God directly empowers women to do His work—not because one gender is superior, but because we’re each worthy of His calling.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2024I have known Beth for 25 years and watched her passionately serve God in many situations. In this book, Beth is vulnerable, gritty, wise, brave, tender, and inviting. She is a wonderful storyteller, and gives a vision of what a true "helper-ezer-warrior" can be in the work of the Kingdom. This is a book primarily for women, but men need to read it! Beth helps us better understand our wives, mothers, and daughters, and how God has called them into the adventure of the Kingdom. Whether you hold a complimentarian or egalitarian theology, this book will help you better understand God's heart for the crowning work of his creation. Beth invites us to ask questions, think, and consider the women whose stories God wrote in the Bible, and in the last 2000 years. Beth has stood faithfully with her husband, her own thriving family, thousands of orphans and mission trip guests, sacrificially led a mega-church through an unexpected pastoral transition, and spoken to many more in live audiences and through her books. She listens well, and teaches well. Like Deborah, Ruth, Mary, Priscilla, Lydia, Nympha, Phoebe, and Junia, God calls every woman to serve his Kingdom purposes. He's given Beth something really valuable - let her inform, bless, and call you to action.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2024Powerful book that examines the truth of God’s calling on women. For years, the verses that say women should be quiet did not rest in my soul as I was taught you use Scripture to interpret Scripture. So many other verses women are leaders and teachers etc. One of the things I love about Beth is she uses the original language and context to interpret Scripture as well as other verses. Finally, my soul has peace from the Holy Spirit in how He wants women to leave up to His calling. He gives the gifts, why are so many telling 50% of the population to be silent. The Great Commission was not for only half the population. What if we stopped listening to what people say we can do and just be obedient to what God calls us to do?
Great book.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2024As a parent of 3 daughters, we began asking questions about how the Bible views and directs women ministry when they were young. try to learn how we can best equip them for the future God has for them while they were in our home. One daughter understood the Bible in deep ways for her young age and started considering ministry as her future. I started looking into women Bible study teachers and my husband and I started wrestling with all kinds of questions on how women fit into Gods Kingdom ministry and how the woman/man co-labor should happen. In my research, I found an ugly side of christianity where believers (male and female) belittled and cut down their fellow sisters who were teaching the word of God. I knew that was not showing the world the glory of God through the church, but I didn’t feel very equipped to chat with others about the role of women or the meaning of ezer in the Bible. If someone believed differently than how I viewed the scriptures, I didn’t really have a good resource to help open up the conversation. After reading Beth’s new book, I feel this is a great book to help spark conversations with people who may come from different viewpoint on what women should be allowed to do or not do in the church. The book doesn’t just wrestle with the question on a woman’s role as an ezer around men, but what does it look to be an ezer to other women and those God places before us. Each chapter is based on a question Beth wrestled with and at the end of the chapter it has some probing/thinking questions. Yet even in writing about her thoughts on these questions - she does not attack anyone who may have a different view than her. She also doesn’t boldly come out and say this is the only correct way to view this question. That is refreshing to read. She is not trying to elevate woman above men. I encourage you to read this book and have a dialogue with others who believe the same as you and differently than you. Search the scriptures and spend time asking our Father to help you find the answers to questions you may have during and after reading this book
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2024Respectful, humble, non confrontational exploration of a topic that many shy away from all would benefit from considering. Beth asks great questions, is a diligent seeker of answers and invites the reader into a conversation. She seems less concerned with convincing and more with offering a fresh look, laced with stories, for consideration. My husband is reading it now and he is impressed with her thoughtfulness. Highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024I love learning from Beth both through her books and through her storytelling. She brings so much wisdom and clarity to God’s word through her teaching. Thank you for another great book to think on and process! A must read for all women in the church.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2024Loved how she guides us to question in curiosity and not controversy. Super useful as in every answer leads us to practice.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2024This is a topic I've thought about a lot and Beth gives some thoughtful answers to questions I've had. Knowing and watching Beth and Todd since early in their marriage I can see how the ideas she talks about works in their marriage. The gifts and talents each has are appreciated and enhanced by the other. Men and women in the church need to read this as well so they can encourage and support each other as they utilize their kingdom gifts.
