Product Description
Rain-X Windshield Repair Kit helps you minimize the appearance and stop the spread of chips and cracks in your windshield. It removes air from the break, fills it with durable resin and makes it even stronger than before. For best results, repairs should be made as soon as possible after the damage occurs and before the break is contaminated by dirt or water. In addition, avoid the use of glass treatments after the crack has formed and prior to repair. However, glass treatments can be applied one (1) week after repair. The kit works best on round damage not more than one inch in diameter, and cracks not longer than 12 inches. It will not repair damage to more than one layer of glass.

Got another chip in my windscreen and so ordered this kit. Wiped the glass, used the supplied razor to ensure not loose chipped glass on the area. Aligned the base which has four suction cups so that the opening hole in the center was directly over the center of the chip. Had to hop in and out of the car to see this as too far over the fender to see from the outside so I looked from the inside.
I then removed the plunger screw in from the center of the screw in post piece and installed it in the base. I tightened it down so it was firm against the windscreen, but not cranked down. I put the required number of drops down the inside of the post piece and then held the post from twisting while I screwed in the center plunger piece.
I don't know why they have flats on these pieces like you need to use wrenches. For the pressure you put on, the hold of the suction cups etc. I don't think you need wrenches. I did the whole repair just by hand.
So, center screwed in almost all the way, let it sit the required minutes (in the instructions) and then removed the center plunger piece and screwed it back in. This lets air come out that might have been displaced out of the chip/crack. Let it sit as required and then removed everything. Did the drop on the top of the chip and put on the plastic sheet. Pulled out of the garage and let sit in the sun to cure. Pull off the plastic sheet and gently scrape the excess off with the razor.
My chip had two star fingers that came off of it. After repair these are gone. The chip is practically invisible and WORLDS better than that "professional" repair. I'll never go to one of those shops again! This kit is so simple to use. Takes just a few minutes to do and get great results!
If I can do it, YOU can do it! Don't hesitate!
I watched a Project Farm video on options for windshield repair and had tried the Permatex and Rain-X windshield kits.
The pros of the Permatex was the increase of pressure with the syringe.
The pros of the Rain-X was the ease of use.
The Permatex was only able to use for one repair.
The Rain-X has enough supplies for up to 6-8 repairs.
I did have to get a replacement kit, as the first kit came with the resin bottle lid cracked and the resin had spilled out.
The Rain-X did an overall decent job of pushing the resin into most of the crack, but did not fill all the spiderweb of cracks.
I tried a single light LED UV light, but it was not enough power, so ended up taking the car outside and the resin was solid after just over 10 minutes.
Make sure to scrap off at a 90 degree angle back and forth, and not just try to scrap off at a 45 degree angle.
It's a decent kit overall to reduce the legs of the crack, and recommend tightening and loosening the pressure screw to make sure as much resin fills into the cracks before setting it with UV light.
