There is hope after trauma. Some of us can recall the exact moment our lives changed forever. The horrific accident. The miscarriage. The day they walked out. The moment our innocence was taken. Others of us can't remember a time when our lives weren't marked by trauma, abuse, or neglect. What happened to you was wrong and it hurt you, but it doesn't have to define you. You may be wounded, but you're not broken. You can overcome trauma and embrace a brighter future.

Over the last decade, husband and wife team Evan and Jenny Owens have helped thousands of people overcome the trials, tragedies, and traumas of their past, and in this book, they show you how you can too. With empathy and insight,
Healing What's Hidden offers a practical, step-by-step process to help you acknowledge your trauma, heal your invisible wounds, and reclaim your future so you can live beyond the anxiety, depression, and shame trauma leaves behind. Others are already experiencing healing. Now it's your turn.

There Is Hope After Trauma

Hey Friends! We’re Evan and Jenny, authors of Healing What’s Hidden and founders of REBOOT Recovery.

For the past decade, we have been blessed to link arms with people from all walks of life as they've overcome some of the most devastating experiences and gone on to embrace lives of joy and purpose. In this book, we share a few of these stories and show you the steps thousands have taken to overcome trauma.

But this book isn’t about their stories, and it certainly isn’t about ours. It is about you and your story.

We don’t believe you’ve come upon this book by accident. Rather, we believe that this is a divine turning point in your life: the moment when pain begins transforming into purpose.

Trauma may have been your personal interaction with the brokenness of the world. But recovery is your personal intersection with the redemptive heart of God. It is our prayer that Healing What’s Hidden will help you experience for yourself the hope that God offers to those who have endured trauma.

Trauma To Truth

Trauma To Truth
If God is good and cares for us. We have all heard this statement, “How could a loving God allow __________?”Fill in the blank with any horribly traumatic event that occurs here on planet Earth. People often use this statement to argue against not only the love of God but also the very existence of God. But God does love us and that is evident in our redemptive history. The creator of the world made a way for disobedient, powerless creatures to come into an eternal relationship with Him. He is patient and gracious. He became one of us (John 3:16) and then sacrificed Himself for us (1 John 3:16). Self sacrifice is the ultimate act of love (John 15:13). God is indeed good and He longs to be in an ever deepening relationship with us.Our identity is not defined by traumatic events or suffering but is grounded in Christ. God does not see you as a victim. He sees you as His child. The scriptures tell us that as children of God, we were chosen before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless adopted sons and daughters, lavished with grace, redeemed, forgiven, given spiritual wisdom and understanding and marked with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:4-14). We are in Christ!!We must not allow tragedy or circumstances to define who we are or how we live. We have His very life within us and we must choose to live out of that truth.

The authors have created a 13 week course called Reboot Recovery based on the lessons in this book. It is faith/ Christian based and if you can't/don't want to join the 13 week support group you can still work through the material via this book. (Also there is a waitlist often for the groups) I completed the course and felt the video lessons were clear, engaging and well thought out. This is another tool in the box for trauma healing. Highly recommend.

This is a digestible book with realistic strategies you can implement to support your mental health and healing after trauma.

As a science-and-data person, I appreciate the documentation and research throughout. These are not the wishy-washy anecdotes from out-of-touch idealists- these authors have demonstrated their commitment to making mental and spiritual health a real, approachable topic in order to help people to heal their specific, personal trauma of living in this sometimes cruel world. There are no trauma-Olympics here- each of us is worthy of healing, no matter the story that lead us here.

As a Christian, I love how intentional the authors were about not overwhelming the practical strategies, as well as the evident thoughtfulness of the stories themselves. This book does not shy away from including trauma perpetuated by the church. No mental gymnastics or platitudes here. This is a deeply honest book.

I especially loved chapter 11, on creating safe community and friendships. When you’re hurting and eager for relief, you can be vulnerable (an uncomfortable truth) and that this was included here is so thoughtful and necessary.

“Should we forgive? Absolutely! Should we forgive without boundaries? Absolutely not.” -pg 155

The tools are here, clearly and concisely, delivered with humor, humility, and authenticity.

I just found this book and Reboot and pre-ordered before it was published. I jumped in right away and as a not frequent book-reader just read a small section each day. Then I found out that is how they intended it to be used, if desired. About 2 pages per section, allows you to finish the book in about 60 days.

Healing What's Hidden walks you through the Reboot Recovery knowledge and teaching with just a bit a day if that is all that you can manage. A thought question at each section allows a great prompt for journaling. I didn't do the journaling at first but have found it very helpful and am going back to catch up on the questions I didn't journal.

I'm now in a Reboot Recovery course and I use weekly lessons also at therapy and reading this book. All of it is helping for the first time! I had 5 yrs of counseling in the late 90's and now am on my 12th year and finally the book & program are giving me a bit of headway.

I have a lot of words (obv) and that is still a bit much in my group so that makes it hard to really be able to share.

The world operates on principles. The sun rises and sets. Oceans have tides. We don't refute these. Things, like trees sometimes get wounds. We as people get wounds. Some are traumatic. Can trauma be healed? Evan and Jenny Owens say "Yes" and give us concise, easy to understand steps to restore hope to those who have been severly wounded by trauma. Denying trauma, ignoring it, doesn't heal us but cripples our response to life. The principles they set forth have been proven by first responders, PTSD military personnel and people who have suffered trauma to bring them to a point of healing, hope and an ability to again enjoy the life they have yet to live. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and incorporated into my life some of these principles and look forward to reading it again. As a counselor I am recommending this to others and using their material to help others on the road to freedom.
