Steve sets the tone from the outset, sharing a story of his childhood experience selling manure and confronting the foundational questions: What is an entrepreneur? And, are you an entrepreneur? What follows is a guided exploration that helps you prepare to seek investment including a chapter on how to tell your story (over and over, the book demonstrates the importance and power of stories) and the importance of having management systems in your business with insights from Verne Harnish of Scaling Up fame.
Steve then takes us on our tour of potential types of investors, hitting all the basics but I found his chapter on Family Offices particularly interesting since not many think of that avenue. He does not deal in the abstract, but shares how a couple used a Family Office investment to grow their farm and he includes insights and advice from an expert in the field, Adam Rein.
Ever creative, Steve spends the last third of the book demonstrating many creative alternatives to traditional investment models. Putting out your story in a book or even a film (yes, Steve documents that opportunity) can lead to collaborations and new horizons.

Fundraising is a complex process that requires knowledge of economic and social systems, and the ability to create relationships with potential investors. It is an art, as well as a science, and it requires detailed and creative planning.
It is a must-read for every entrepreneur, whether they want to raise funds, unlock cash from their current business, or exit it.

Steve has an amazing ability to present valuable, and often complex, business knowledge in a way that is not only simple to understand, but also fun to read. The insights in Pitchology are so great you’ll want to carry it around with you after you’re done reading it.

The dog ear on the front cover sets the stage for how much information, wisdom and useful knowledge is packed into this book. Pitchology is filled with so many stories that help an entrepreneur understand how to interact with the world and with potential investors to create the meaningful impact they want. But it is also like having a mentor at your side, explaining the importance of telling your story, learning to collaborate and not being afraid to follow your passion and purpose in order to take your successful company to the next level. The interviews are a tremendous added bonus as well.
