Walk of Shame (Downside of Dating Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 896 ratings

One night. No strings. And a really good puck.

Five years ago, Astrid O’Malley experienced the ultimate in public humiliation. Being dumped at the altar by her childhood sweetheart was horrifying enough. That fact that he was a professional hockey goalie and her dad was his coach? It was all anyone in sports could talk about.

Eff hockey. Eff goalies.

These days, Astrid lives a life (mostly) free of hockey and free to pursue whoever she wants with exactly zero shame in her game. Like tonight’s hook-up.
This guy’s nailed the lumberjack aesthetic perfectly. Especially when he has the stamina and creativity to back it up.

Because the rule is: it’s one night only. Which is gonna be a problem because she’s just discovered he lives in the apartment upstairs.

And he’s joined her dad’s team. As the goalie coach. To train her ex.

Now Astrid is in some kind of hockey hell–filled with her ex, her family, and the best sex of her life. And somehow she’s been roped back onto the team.

Puck my life.

Such a cute read!

Such a cute read!
This was such a fun read!I immediately was hooked and I honestly couldn’t stop reading. This book started off super strong & you were immediately thrown into some sizzling scenes!Loved the father/daughter relationship and I totally connected with the MC and her need to “people please.”I’m 100% here for the hockey romances and this book had me giggling so much. The way he LISTENED & SPOILED her was giving me LIFE!(I will say this is my first book I have read of hers) but I think there could have been a bit more character development, we met so many different characters that all I could think about was that I must have missed a spin off series about them.I also really wanted to give this book 4 stars, but the ending was a bit weird and it really threw me for a loop. But overall, this book was such a cute read and it’s definitely binge worthy.

I really enjoyed this book. Astrid is about to marry her childhood sweetheart Tig. She is in her wedding dress, at the church when she gets a FaceTime call from Tig. He is a professional Hockey goalie (her dad is his coach), and he has been traded to the Ice Knights and on his way to his new town. He chose hockey over her. Fast forward five years, and Astrid has a strict set of rules for men, one night only, no staying over, don’t mix work with pleasure, nothing where she lives, and no hockey. Cal walks into the bar she works at, and plays the knight in shining armor with a rude customer. Astrid breaks one of the rules when she goes to meet him after work at his place. Another rule is about to break since she live in the apartment underneath him. All of the rules start to shatter when her father begs her to work for him again at his new team, the Ice Knight. She agrees, and in walks the new goalie coach that will be helping her ex Tig (who is in a major slump), Cal. Of course, her father wants her to work with Cal to help Tig out of his slump. I loved both Cal and Nora. Cal is a bit of a unicorn, ex hockey goalie whose career tragically ended when he almost bled out on the ice, super thoughtful and sweet. Nora is understandably a bit neurotic about not letting anyone close given her humiliation at being left at the altar, and the subsequent tabloid exposure. I loved that the author brought in other characters from her previous series, and you were able to catch up on their lives. While this is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Prelude: It is Astrid's wedding day and it's almost time for her walk down the aisle. Then she gets a FaceTime call from the groom, her childhood sweetheart Tig. He's a professional hockey player (her dad's his coach). He informs her that he's just been traded to another team and he's on his way to that team's city instead of showing up for their wedding. He's very matter-of-fact about the whole thing, and shows he thinks it's no big deal that he's skipped out on the wedding. Five years later: Astrid now hates and avoids all things hockey-related. She avoids any and all relationships, instead opting for one night stands, no staying over, no mixing work and pleasure, no hookups allowed in her apartment. She and Tig haven't seen or spoken to each other since their non-wedding. She was deeply humiliated and relentlessly hounded by the media after what happened. She meets Cal during a chance encounter. He's a former professional hockey player, now reluctantly retired after a severe injury during a game ended his career. He becomes her latest one night stand after he forcefully intervenes when a rude customer disrespects her at a bar where she's filling in for a friend as the bartender. The chemistry between Cal and Astrid is immediate and intense, and "somehow" Astrid finds herself continuing to break her own rules about her encounters with men. Then, her dad who's now the coach for the team Tig plays for, asks her to help the new goalie coach (who turns out to be Cal) to work as a unit to help Tig out of the major slump he's in. Cal wants to only focus on being a good goalie coach so he can still have a connection to hockey, but he can't stay away from Astrid. Cal is attentive, protective, romantic, and affectionate, and I really liked him as the MMC. Astrid was (understandably) more resistant to their developing feelings/relationship, but I still found her as less likeable than Cal.
POILER ALERT: I don't know that I'd be as willing as Astrid to bury the hatchet when she and Tig finally talked and had closure about their past. Also, even given past circumstances, I was disgruntled when the epilogue revealed that even though Astrid and Cal were still together and going strong after several years, she was, by her choice, the almost sister-in-law instead of having married Cal.

This was a fun read.
After being dumped on her wedding day Astrid goes on a world tour of men by having one night stands with men for the next 5 years. After settling down in a new town with a new job she meets Cal, and breaks all her rules with him.

The “one more time” sex between these two was hot! Neither can keep their hands or thoughts to themselves. The sweet little things Cal does to keep him in her thoughts and to prove, if only subconsciously, that he listens to her was so cute and gives you heart eyes.
These two have such great chemistry. And the side characters are a hoot.

5 years ago, Astrid was left at the alter by the star goalie. Since then, she has tried to swear off all things hockey. Kind of hard to do when your dad is a hockey coach.

Astrid has made it her mission to have a life of one night stands, and she is successful, until she meets Cal. The sparks fly between these two. First, she sleeps with Cal, even after she learns that he lives in her building. Then her dad talks her into working to bring back her ex's goalie mojo. If that isn't bad enough, she soon finds out that the goalie coach hired to help her ex is Cal!

I enjoy this author's books. They always make me laugh. I can't wait to read the next one.
