I've had a bad experience in the past with a battery tester, but this one seems accurate. The only problem I had is one of my cars has an AGM battery with 2 cold cranking amp ratings on it, and I am not sure which one to enter when doing a test. Entering one gets me a bad (REPLACE) battery reading, and entering the other gets me a good battery rating.

UPDATE - Good customer service and revised product - INITIAL: Fail mostly on first real use

I am updating my review after TOPDON customer service worked very had to resolve the issue I had. They wanted to send me a new unit, to which I initially responded that it would not do me any good unless my specific issue was fixed. Customer service made contact with their engineers, and I am told my issue was indeed fixed (problem listed below). I did not get around to specifically draining my battery to around 9v to check for myself in the same exact scenario. However, I think they have done smarter things with the latest firmware. For one thing, the unit allows you to select each test individually. The previous unit wanted to do them all in a row, without allowing individual selection. My problem before was that it would get hung up the the starting test and would not go beyond that test. Now, if I want to do the charging test only, I can. This would have gotten me to have the ability to test my charging system before. They worked really hard to gain my trust and have me try a new unit. This said, I think they are a reputable company and this unit does the job. If the initial unit I bought was as good as the second one they sent, I would have rated this at 5 stars. I probably would not have had the chance to see the effort their customer service puts into resolving an issue though.

I bought this well before I really needed it. I tried it initially on properly functioning vehicles and it worked fine. Then again, I didn’t buy this to acknowledge my car works fine. I had an intermittent battery light blinking on my 2003 Jetta today. My battery less than a year old, alternator about 2 years old. I attached the Topdon and started the in vehicle test. Well it told me the battery is fine just needs a recharge. Upon pressing ok, the unit proceeds to the starting test. Car started just fine but Topdon did not detect. It just hung up waiting for signal. I disconnected and tried two more times. Same deal. I had good scraped in connections. Tried on another car (old Saturn). It worked fine on the working car. So, since I knew the VW started fine though just hung up at the start test, I hooked up both cars in parallel so I could get the Topdon past the starting test and on to the Charging Test (disconnecting the 2nd car before pushing ok to start the charging test). As I suspected it should, the unit did detect a No Output from the charging system. What a ridiculous amount of effort! I bought this for ease of use. Nice idea, but seriously I need a unit that works when my car is broken not working good. I suspect it needed a greater voltage to perform the Starting Test. I also suspect, since this unit gets its power from the vehicle under test it needs enough power to run the tester. I had enough power to start the car, though tester didn’t work?
