What is Repentance? Paperback – December 11, 2015

4.8 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

The spirit of our age encourages us not to feel bad about ourselves and to build up our self-esteem. Yet to become a Christian and then to maintain a healthy Christian life, we must practice repentance acknowledging with sorrow our sin and yearning for holiness and increased obedience to God's will. In this pamphlet, Jeremy Walker explains from the Scriptures what it means to repent by turning from our sin and turning to God. He provides biblical portraits of repentance and practical steps toward developing this important characteristic in our lives.

Series Description

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones once said that what the church needs to do most all is 'to begin herself to live the Christian life. If she did that, men and women would be crowding into our buildings. They would say, What is the secret of this?' As Christians, one of our greatest needs is for the Spirit of God to cultivate biblical godliness in us in order to put the beauty of Christ on display through us, all to the glory of the triune God. With this goal in mind, this series of booklets treats matters vital to Christian experience at a basic level. Each booklet addresses a specific question in order to inform the mind, warm the affections, and transform the whole person by the Spirit's grace, so that the church may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

Review

Reading Jeremy Walker's pamphlet What Is Repentance? feels like following a physician of souls into a spiritual operating room and seeing him lay open the human heart. He first briefly shows us the nature of sin and its devastating consequences. Then, with precision, he uses a surgeon's scalpel to skillfully separate false and true repentance so that we may truly find salvation in Jesus Christ. This is a book every Christian should read and place in the hands of those who are seriously inquiring about the way to life. --Conrad Mbewe, pastor of Kabwata Baptist Church, Zambia, and conference speaker

Jeremy Walker describes what true repentance looks like. Without true repentance, there can be no true faith. Understanding repentance will also help in resolving relational conflicts. This is very necessary doctrine for the Christian.
