Mel Brooks once said, "tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into a sewer and die." So, horror comedy is when you fall into a sewer and die, but land in some government toxic waste, and come back to life, to eat your friend who was crying over their cut finger while you fell down the sewer and died. And then you say something about, I don't know, finger sandwiches? I'm not the funny guy. But Paul Lubaczewski is! With horror comedy classics like I Never Eat... Cheesesteak and Cult of the Gator God, Paul knows his way around the subgenre, and he enlisted the best of the best who have delivered a hell of a collection!
"What I like about the anthology you're about to dig into is it does show the range of the genre, from full-out potty humor all the way to some slick and clever wordplay, from the bizarre to the parody, it's all in here. Which is a testament to the talent of the authors who didn't immediately block me on all social media when I started asking around for contributions," says Paul in his introduction. The lineup includes...
“What the Cat Dragged” in by Nikki Nelson-Hicks
“Pubes” by RJ Benetti
“Dem Ghoulish Blues” by Christine Morgan
“The Night of the Living Not Gonna Die but Keep on Living People Who I Couldn’t Kill” By Damien Casey & Kyra R. Torres
“Fecesnura:
The Demon Lord of Shit” by Tony Evans
“Voodou Lemonade” by Michael Allen Rose
“Something Is A--Uh--Without Feet--At the Circle S” By Nikolas P. Robinson
“The Assassination of Mr. Baltisberger” by John Baltisberger
“No Pets Allowed” by Paul Lubaczewski
“Slippery Shit” by John Wayne Comunale
“I’m No Jeff Strand” by Bridgett Nelson
“The Academic Hearing Committee’s Final Decision” by Kenzie Jennings
“Is That Voodoo Doll Anatomically Correct?” by Robert Essig

Not much to say after that, bloody, goofy, occasionally gross fun for all ages, assuming that we're talking over 18

This was a fun book for me. It consisted of short stories, but it had my 2 favorite genres in it. One minute I’m in shock because of how disgusting and vile it is and the next minute I’m laughing my ass off. I enjoyed this book!!

A fantastic collection of Horror Comedy where every story hits the mark but each has its own bloodied candy flavor to it!

By now, we all should know horror and comedy are a perfect duo, two great tastes that taste great together, the Reese’s peanutbutter cup of messed-uppedness, flip sides of the same crazy coin. The emotions they each evoke, the involuntary reactions, the urge to scream and the urge to laugh, are nearly identical. So, as the El Dorado meme says, both, both is good.

And why not? Why not scream and laugh at the same time? Okay, maybe because you’ll feel even more guilty after, but we’re all friends here; nobody’s judging. We’re wired to laugh at gross stuff already, whether or not it’s a defense mechanism against our own certain mortality.

Psychology and philosophy aside, though, hey, sometimes it’s just funny. Sick, but funny. Funny, but sick. Tomayto, tomahto. Whatever the reason, here we are, and might as well embrace and roll with it.

Which is precisely what the authors in this oogy-hilarious anthology do, and they do it really freakin’ top-notch. (including, dare I say, that one chick I won’t name here because reasons; if she gets to go to KillerCon and do a reading, her story from this is the one she’s gonna read). From the intro -- don’t skip the intro, don’t you dare! -- throughout, it’s a wild, rude, raucous ride.

Whether it’s your cat catching something decidedly abnormal, adolescent body hair run amok, the grumpy lamentations of the overlooked, an endless killing spree of the unkillable, making a deal with a particularly crappy devil, an adorable little girl determined not to let anyone mess with her lemonade stand, a freaky late-night incident at a convenience store, some meta-splatter mayhem featuring many familiar names, awkward encounters with new neighbors, desperate gastrointestinal distress, romance gone all kinds of wrong, a series of the world’s worst Zoom meetings, unexpected male-enhancement side effects, or the annoyance of being a scary killer with a shy streak ...

Just get this book. Read it. Laugh. Groan, Snorfle. Gag. Have spontaneous snickering outbursts while being put off your lunch. Whether you’re ashamed of yourself after or not, trust me, you aren’t alone!
