In this adult-oriented retelling, Dorothy‘s first act, murder, incites riots, and causes a huge power dynamic shift in Oz. When a Congress, the Footmen of Fate, are installed, the compass-oriented witches (North, South, East, and West) who are the governors of their associated Cardinal-Point Direction States become wrapped into an all out conflict amidst a Talking Animal Civil War. There are new and old characters alike, but The Wizard, ousted as a charlatan and wielding music like a weapon, sets up the Witch of the East in a wicked scheme as a murderess too; but after a house falls, she’s resurrected…and on a mission!
Panic begins anew as the evil Death Witch Mombi, who has the power over reanimating the dead, creates her Army of the Damned from of all the buried in Oz, Glinda slides into a character struggle with humility, the Scarecrow has to sort through the rubble The Wizard has left of all Music, with Scare’s new Musician’s Apprentics Guild, and Lion wants to rescue Dorothy from exile to establish a new theater experience “The Yellow Brick Way,” akin to our Broadway… and there’s no place like home, especially when our home and theirs collide…right in Times Square itself!

Growing up in rural North Carolina as a gay kid, I was exposed to much religious fervor, hate and violence during the AIDS crisis, so our community was continuously under siege and I felt my power would never come back to me if I ever had any at all; this had me delving into Fantasy and Science Fiction, and had me continuously wondering how things would be different were I to be a female or have magic powers. I decided to combine both of those into my first foray into the novel form, and I hope that with any margin of success I might achieve that I can give back to the community that I came from by at least a little bit and increase awareness to fight ignorance and prejudice of all types in the Bible Belt, which continues to fester in the small, shadowy pockets that no one usually sees…but are very much dangerous.

From the very event that began the original journey: a house falls on and kills a witch-now that witch is resurrected and Dorothy is a murderess from the jump! Embersteeds, Dusk Divers who command the Marble Rains that *ARE* magick, to the fresh corpse of a woman who sludges out of the bog to command her pickled dead army of the damned - Mombi the Death Witch is now the most deadly and powerful force in all of Oz, commanding even dead skin cells or a last gasp… How will the original foursome and a whole new crazy cast of strange and weird citizens come together to help Glinda the Good Witch see The Light to victory!
