To Catch a Firefly Kindle Edition
He was my beginning. And my never-ending.
Ellis
There’s a lot I’ve never told my best friend. The fact that I love him. That I miss him every day he’s gone. That, sometimes, I ache for him with a ferocity that leaves me breathless.
Lucky Buchanan tore into my life as a boy, wild and daring, my opposite in every way. He drew me in, stole my heart without trying. He hears me, even though I rarely speak a word. But I always knew this place wouldn’t be enough for my free-spirited friend. I knew he wasn’t mine to keep.
So why, when I finally try to get over him, does he sweep back into town? Why is he upset? Why is there tension between us for the first time in years?
I never saw a future where Lucky could be mine. But now, unless I want to lose my friend, I might not have a choice but to tell the truth. My heart belongs to him. It has from the start.
If only I knew how to hold onto a creature that’s meant to fly.
To Catch a Firefly is a standalone, childhood friends-to-lovers romance told in dual POV. There’s epic levels of pining, a neurodivergent MC with selective mutism, two friends who always come back to one another, glass hearts and romantic declarations, and a HEA beneath the night sky.

The writing is amazing and Ellis and Luckys story just feels do real. It is one of the best friends to lovers books I've ever read and it's so full of feelings and it's so romantic without being over the top or cringy. The love between Lucky and Ellis is just pure from the the first page to the last and I'm so happy I found this book and got to read their story.
I was rooting for both Ellis and Lucky the entire book, I loved them both. The pining in this book is everything, I just wanted to scream at Ellis and Lucky, but at the same time their feelings are so beautiful I just never wanted it to stop. I love seeing such a good, healthy relationship rep. I also really appreciate the friendships and family relationships in this book too and the growth even with more minor characters like Riley.
I got teary eyed multiple times reading this book especially during the last 40%. Ok but, everyone needs to read this book asap!!!

“To Catch a Firefly” has got to be one of the sweetest stories I’ve ever read. Not only one the sweetest, but one the greatest best friends to lovers stories I’ve ever read. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and when it’s as well done as this one it solidifies why.
Ellis and Lucky have been best friends since age 10. Lucky was new to the town. Ellis went over to meet him and the rest was history. What I love so much about this story is how Emmy Sanders really develops the friendship. We really get a feel of how close these two are and how much they mean to each other. She really sets the foundation of an epic friends to lovers.
One thing I would like to highlight. Ellis is on the autistic spectrum, but what I love so much is how his story is not focused on that. As a reader there are hints of him being on the spectrum, mainly his limited verbal speaking. Being on the spectrum is just a small part of who he is. Ellis is just Ellis and I loved that approach to his story. Ellis says so much even with such small amount of words. I absolutely loved how Lucky was able to communicate with Ellis. Even with simple grunts and hums, Lucky knew exactly what it all meant. *swoon*
Ellis and Lucky have my whole heart!
Lucky was so full of life and Ellis knew that their small town was too small to contain Lucky. I loved how Ellis fully embraced Lucky living his life and seeing the world. Even with time and distance, their friendship was solid.
With so much love between these two, romantic feelings were inevitable. My goodness how I loved seeing their relationship bloom to so much more.
I seriously could go on and on about this story. It was incredibly well written. The characters will seriously carve themselves into your heart. The writing, character and plot development were seamless and so well done. I could not put this book down. This was one heck of a swoon worthy romance! Bravo to Emmy Sanders for bringing such incredible characters to life! 👏🏾👏🏾
Lucky is a wild one. He’s the complete opposite of Ellis yet somehow they become inseparable. He understands Ellis and it’s as if Ellis doesn’t need to talk.. Lucky already knows what he’s going to say. But Lucky doesn’t like it in Nebraska. He doesn’t want to spend his life there.. he wants to travel the world. Ellis knows that eventually he’ll have to say goodbye.
When they graduate college, Lucky gets a job as a photographer and gets to travel and Lucky stays back to help his mother who’s suffering from MS. But they never stop contact, they never let go. It’s when Lucky comes back based off a clue Ellis gave him as to who he’s ever loved. Lucky knows it’s him.
This story is their BEAUTIFUL journey. While I was crying the whole time, I was also rooting for a happy ending between them. It’s a classic tale of growing up loving someone but fearing you’ll hold them back. Amazing and wonderfully written. I love this story so much! The neurodivergent representation was spot on. Ellis has a special place in my heart. I highly recommend if you feel like buying an extra box of tissues.
I adored Lucky and Ellis together. The way they communicated with each other; how Lucky could tell exactly what Ellis wanted to say without him actually talking. The love between them was so beautiful. And Danil was such a fun, loving character.
There are no words for how much I adored this. 100 stars!!!!

Highly recommend!!!!
I have been in one of the worst reading slumps. The last half dozen books I’ve read I’ve started ok and ended up slimming the rest of the book nothing was gripping, until this book.
This book just hit me everywhere. It was the easiest, most enjoyable, loving, beautiful book I’ve read this year. This book isn’t about the drama, the angst or over the top plot. This book sells itself on simplicity of love and emotion and life.
The MMC’s Ellis and Lucky have been best friends since Lucky moved in next door when he was 10. It’s a small town, being openly Gay isn’t something Lucky has a lot of friends in the same situation but his constant is always Ellis. Ellis knows he’s not like everyone else but Lucky sees him, doesn’t expect him to be ‘normal’ and accepts him just because.
This book is a beautiful journey about growing up together, finding your own place, finding your home and that your happily ever after sometimes can have been right next door this whole time.
The characters, the story, the book, it is beautiful, in a way that just warms your heart, your soul and was an absolute joy to read and experience and I loved it.
If you haven’t already, you’re thinking about it, get this book, read it, love it, fall in love with Ellis and Lucky and their friendship, their life, their love.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would
