You Are What You Worship: How True Worship Shapes Us Into the People We Were Made to Be
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
There is something essential missing from modern-day, Christianity. We are people of faith but without fruit. You Are What You Worship unpacks the connection between the God-given design of humanity and living out our biblical purpose. After all, the success of any created thing is determined by how well it operates within its design. And the way by which we can successfully live out our God-given purpose is through true worship.
This book boils down the entire message of the Bible by giving practical and simple biblical truths for what God desires for us and from us. If you are asking questions such as "What is my purpose?" or "what does God want from me?" this book is for you. For all believers, nominal to radical, this book spells out God's clear purpose for your life and gives practical ways to live out that purpose.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2021With a combination of solid biblical truth and relatable analogies, author and worship director Jonathan Azzarrello offers insight into what true worship is, and how it changes us. Solid theology is made accessible by parallels to everyday life (that are sometimes quite amusing!), and this allows readers to relate and apply the message of the book to their lives. This book is full of wisdom, and I found myself going crazy with my highlighter to mark passage after passage to reference later. Jonathan covers why we should worship, how we should worship, and what true worship looks like in everyday life in a way that inspires faith and challenges the reader to move forward with new purpose. This is hard to do as a debut author, but he hits the nail on the head. I know the author, as I am a member of the church where he directs worship, but I can honestly say this is an unbiased review and I truly do recommend this book to those who want to consider biblical worship in a new light. Grab a copy on Amazon.com in eBook, paperback, and audiobook form to experience this message for yourself!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2023If you’re ready to have your feelings hurt, heart tested, and walk strengthened- this is the book for you! I have never taken so long to finish a book, but it was because there was so much to chew on and work on in each page. The purification and conviction were painful, but I can truly say this is the best devotional I have ever gone through. I recommend it to everyone. The constant Scripture references and consistent Biblical back up of each point is so refreshing. It might be a painful read, but it’ll be in the best way!! Prepare your heart to be tested, but also be prepared to grow in your walk, relationship with Christ, and in your love of others and showing His love!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2021I thought You Are What You Worship to be a very challenging book. Not because it was difficult to read but it made me think about how I view worship and how I worship in church and in my own private time with God. I gave it four stars because I like the King James Bible and he used other translations. But that's just my personal preference .
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021Excellent, well written book! This is an easy read, but one that makes you think! Great book to read together as a family! Highly recommend for anyone! Allow the truth found between these pages to sink in. #YAWYW
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2022Love that this book is just written by a dude who loves the Lord, not a worship celebrity. I believe the Holy Spirit moving through the local church is the only sustainable changing agent in our world. We grew up hearing the phrase, “You are what you eat.” And this book takes that sentiment a step further positing, “You are what you worship” or in other words, “You become what you behold.” Our worship team went through it together and we did one chapter a week. Transformational! Pick up a copy for yourself and a friend or for your whole ministry! You won’t regret it. God bless!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2022Jon’s raw and relatable prose dives into worship not as an act but as a lifestyle: worship that permeates every aspect of our lives.
It is a gut check in the most humble way.
Jon shares a lot of personal experiences over nearly a decade of leading worship, both inside and outside the church. His thoughts about who God is to him and his faith walk invited me to a place of vulnerability to really check what receives my worship.
Any worshipper from the seats to the stage can find something applicable here.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021If you simply equate "worship" with singing songs about God and going to church, the truths in this book will transform your walk with the Lord. If you already have a deeper understanding that worship is a response to Christ's love for us, the truths in this book will renew and refresh that understanding and give you some encouragement to being "intentional to let the love of Jesus in, and be just as intentional and disciplined to let it come out."
